Well a link to the full lyrics would be nice. Like most people and I suspect many Americans, I didn't know the rst of the story. These are dark days when the first verse is sounding loudly. It is in the songs complete lyric that a hope for an America truly the land of the free might be obtained. When the rest of the world hears verse one and sees the military adventurism it's an incomplete narrative. And the hockey fans chanting USA USA to an NHL team with less than 30 % Americans. Great follow up story. Well done! If we do not have controversy we would not have the USA! We were "Born to be Wild"!

If only we all were truly free and bravery was a shared virtue by rich and poor alike instead of so many of the poor being used as cannon fodder in never-ending warfare all thanks to money and bone spurs.

Two things of note, a uniformed marine who is also a Green Party Senate candidate from NC protested the war during the Senate Armed Services Committee meeting yesterday. The Capitol police were forcing him from the room when Montana’s Senator, Tim Sheehy added his brute force to the scrum and proceeded to break the man’s arm. Sheehy not being brave but definitely being an asshole.

Irony is truly dead now because apparently the US is having problems shooting down the Iranian drones that they have been turning out for Russia for its war of aggression in Ukraine. Consequently, we have gone begging to President Zelenskyy for help because the Ukrainian people have developed the very drone that can handle those exact Iranian/Russian drones. What goes around is coming back around, it seems. Frankly, I hope that, 1. President Zelenskyy holds our feet to the fire for a full commitment for enough materiel to send Putin back to the Stone Age or, barring no commitment on our part, that 2. President Zelenskyy will tell Trump, Vance, Miller and that drip of a reporter who made the comment about Zelenskyy’s lack of a suit, to go straight to Hell and don’t come back. He probably won’t because he’s much too classy for that. But if anyone ever had a reason to respond like that, Zelenskyy does.

And apparently Noem is out and Markwayne Mullin is stepping into her heels. I wonder if he will be getting Lewandowski privileges too.

It’s easy to find the full lyrics of America the Beautiful, and they far better exemplify what I grew up considering the American Ethos. I’ve always wished more people would sing beyond the first verse, and preferred it to the Star Spangled Banner, because anyone can sing it, not just sopranos.

America the Beautiful Lyrics

O beautiful for spacious skies

For amber waves of grain

For purple mountain majesties

Above the fruited plain!

America! America!

God shed his grace on thee

And crown thy good with brotherhood

From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for pilgrim feet

Whose stern impassioned stress

A thoroughfare of freedom beat

Across the wilderness!

America! America!

God mend thine every flaw

Confirm thy soul in self-control

Thy liberty in law!

O beautiful for heroes proved

In liberating strife

Who more than self their country loved

And mercy more than life!

America! America!

May God thy gold refine

Till all success be nobleness

And every gain divine!

O beautiful for patriot dream

That sees beyond the years

Thine alabaster cities gleam

Undimmed by human tears!

America! America!

God shed his grace on thee

And crown thy good with brotherhood

From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for halcyon skies

For amber waves of grain

For purple mountain majesties

Above the enameled plain!

America! America!

God shed his grace on thee

Till souls wax fair as earth and air

And music-hearted sea!

O beautiful for pilgrims feet

Whose stem impassioned stress

A thoroughfare for freedom beat

Across the wilderness!

America! America!

God shed his grace on thee

Till paths be wrought through

Wilds of thought

By pilgrim foot and knee!

O beautiful for glory-tale

Of liberating strife

When once and twice

For man's avail

Men lavished precious life!

America! America!

God shed his grace on thee

Till selfish gain no longer stain

The banner of the free!

O beautiful for patriot dream

That sees beyond the years

Thine alabaster cities gleam

Undimmed by human tears!

America! America!

God shed his grace on thee

Till nobler men keep once again

Thy whiter jubilee!

Written by Katharine Lee Bates as a poem in 1893 and first published in 1895, it was combined with music composed by church organist Samuel A. Ward in 1910. Bates wrote the poem after a journey to the top of Pikes Peak in Colorado, saying the views there inspired her.
