hmmm, don't think I've had a pointless job. Some bad jobs, which I quit asap. If I had a pointless job, I assume I'd quit that asap, also, & hopefully learn, uh, something, from it...

maybe the HAMA's hostage digging his own grave might say that's a pointless or bad job?

the police posing as joggers was interesting. I always thought that was common knowledge. Well, perhaps to more caring males? My ex didn't think it was a big deal...

& the story about fines being determined by the wealth of the individual. That might be ok, however, I think what's more important is repeat offenders & drunk driving. Jail time for such, imo. Impound the car. I don't know why that's not done, here or anywhere. People say things like 'oh, the car might belong to someone else' --- well, friends don't let friends drive drunk, should also say friends don't let known speeders, repeat offenders, drunk drivers borrow their cars... or 'oh the family will suffer w/out the car' - uh, same thing... don't let that family member behind the wheel...

First of all, the ditch digging job given to Paul Newman was not completely pointless. It was given as punishment with one prison guard ordering him to dig the ditch then walking away and another prison guard later telling him to fill in the hole. This was done repeatedly to break his will to disobey orders, so it was not altogether pointless. At least, not from the guard's perspective.

I had a pointless job with a credit company. I was laid off and applied for unemployment. Shortly after, the company offered me a job in a local office in an administrative position. It turned out the job basically involved me taking the mail from one side of the office to another as well as stuffing late notices into an envelope (not mailing them, just stuffing the envelopes). It didn't take long to figure out that the company brought me back with the hope that I would decline the position and they could deny my unemployment benefits. I left after one week.

I’ve had a few of these over my career, but just to choose one:

Back in school, I worked for a team of attorneys. One of our many bosses commandeered me and some other student workers to review tens of thousands of documents before turning them over in a lawsuit.

We put in a heck of an effort, a couple of weeks worth of work including Saturdays and Sundays, and met the deadline.

But then, the lawyer/boss couldn’t be found. When we finally connected, he revealed the lawsuit had been settled not long after he’d given us the review assignment, so the whole thing was moot. He just hadn’t thought to tell us.

We were making good money, but it was very dispiriting.

well, this wasn't really a pointless job on my part, but a well-played job by my divorce attorney when he handed over piles of material from my soon to be ex's disclosure evidence. Ha ha - they put me in a side conference room w/ post-it notes so I could go line-by-line, date-by-date, doing their work for them... lots of 'guilty evidence' found... ex wasn't expecting allllll those post-its. Ooops.

Not sure any job is pointless - each add an opportunity: to work with others - human interaction, provides income- strength to the economy (more jobs); you learn something from everything you do.

I have had a lot of jobs in my career but can’t say any of them were pointless. Some of them had pointless days, but the job itself was not. Once people found out what I was capable of doing, I was given lots of pork and opportunities to learn. Never had the temperament to do pointless work.

I think bad is better than pointless - most "bad" jobs have the probable option of becoming better (if not "good") jobs, whereas pointless jobs would seem to be forever pointless. My most pointless was a 75-cents an hour job at a hobby shop stuffing peacock feathers into a plastic bag. No silver lining was seen and I lasted about a week (luckily I was only 15 years old). I learned that I needed to understand what the job was going to be before I went through the hiring process. So my process to handle this pointless job was to quit...went on to a burger joint (at 16), finance guy for a water softener company (at 17), joining the Air Force at 18, retiring at 39 and another 25 years at Minneapolis Public Schools (none of those were pointless)

Yeah, I’ve had various jobs; some more boring than pointless. I grew up with the motto that it’s always easier to find something better when you’re already working. Anytime I made a move it was for more money or a better schedule. I did end up going back to school to land in a field that fit me perfectly but admittedly it took all my previous experience to realize it.

As for your 7 other things, with all the egregious shite going on under this regime it was wonderful to read about how Switzerland and several other countries treat those who decide to trample on their country’s laws. More power to them.
