Thanks. I hate the current Facebook. I hope this works.

A Canadian predicts our election results: likely a Liberal majority and almost certainly a Liberal minority which then would require some cooperation from other parties to get government work done. The reason is the massive opposition to the US president insulting us with 51st state threats and tariff threats. Unlikely Americans, we believe "he who does not deserve respect" and have seen him insult your politicians until they follow his orders and how he has subverted your government and attacked the welfare of your country's people. We believe he will carry out his threats and like Ukraine and Palestine, we will fight even if it is a losing battle.

I really hope we are not doomed for another four years of Liberal governing.

I really hope we have four (or many more) years of sensible, constituent-focused governing that respects the diversity that has always made America great along with women, children and our global partners, not those in the top 10%.

The only reason I ever had a Facebook account is that some continuing education site required a Facebook account. Trying to get rid of it.

I was early FB adopter, mainly due to ease and convenience compare with email to stay in touch with aging (like myself) baby boomer friends, family, grown kids and grandkids (and the occasional "reconnect" with childhood or long lost former work colleagues). Currently, you nailed it exactly. I'm a "once a week FB check-in" user, nothing else. I don't do Instagram, Whats App, Whats Up, Snap Chat, etc. And yes, I still live and work on my laptop, send/receive emails all day, and buy Forever stamps by the 100-rolls (a great investment, by the way, since USPS has increased the price of a first class stamp 5 times in the past 3 years). Oh, I also noticed that many folks think Facebook IS "the internet" (they respond "what's Google?"). FB is their only universe to for search, communicate, news, shopping, FB-dedicated store fronts, sales, etc. FB is the parallet universe of the 21st century.

YES!!! Forever stamps 👍 You can also purchase them for international use, which I do but not by the roll.

Still on Facebook - some useful groups and contacts - the wider aspirations of Meta are irrelevant. Another platform that is becoming increasingly intrusive is Nextdoor. Aside from its American origins it operates around the world. In the UK it’s becoming increasingly demanding of users to ‘accept all’ interact with site, naturally generating more data for personalised targeting. Aside from individual platforms, ShadowDragon's SocialNet tool appears to be a broadly applied method of intrusive analysis of people

Ha! I just jumped over to my FB to see what's going on. I rarely go there, altho I get email notices from people who post, apparently, daily???? Just now I found a FB message sent by my older brother - that's the way he communicates w/ me - haha - I miss those messages all the time!! When I do get on, I scroll down seeing posts from groups I'm on & some of those can become time-sucks 'cause they still interest me, although not enough to visit regularly. If I ever post, which is rarely, it would be a quote.

After the Cambridge Analytica scandal I washed my hands of that crap. Like you I lurk and read an occasional menu but will never have an account again.

I must have a different version of FB because I don’t have a friends option. It only lists friends and requests. Digging deeper, the feed selection makes it worse.

I agree, I hate what has happened and rarely use it, or even open it.

Thanks for the easy to follow instructions. It worked just as advertised and I like it much more. Those friends, and we all have them, who post ten times a day get snoozed or unfollowed and I only see them on their birthday. Hooray!

No FB for me. Substack is the closest I get to anti-social media. Since retiring I don’t even use my LinkedIn account which was only for work.

I understand from the NYT that several active duty armed forces members were detained during the immigration raid in CO. That would really piss me off. Makes me think of all the Cold War “papers please” nonsense. I shouldn’t have to prove my citizenship unless I’ve done something illegal.

I've never been on FB. When my kids played sports I'd get texts, along with other parents like me, "For the Parents Not on FB" and the information we needed. I used to get a rash from people telling me it would be easier if I would just join FB. I wasn't going to join a social media platform just so I could be informed as to who's turn it was to pick up the bagels for a Saturday away game. If there was anything of importance to get out to us, the kids told us after practice or they'd be in touch with other teammates who had the info from their parents who were on FB. I was told once that, for business purposes, I needed to have a FB account. I agreed as long as there was someone else who was going to maintain it. That was the end of the mandate.

As to Social Security - as a number person I have calculated the total amount received and age when equal - need to look at that number - might make sense to start early and if you don't need the fund - add to your IRA.

I am still on FB, mainly to keep up with family, but also some community groups. Just ignore the ads. There really isn’t a good alternative out there. I don’t post much, though.

Canadian election? It has been a nasty one, especially in some FB community groups. Best thing would be to have another minority government. The Liberals have screwed up our economy so badly they cannot be trusted to fix it. The Conservatives are a little too far right leaning. The NDP haven’t got a chance, nor do the Greens. This is by far the most hopeless election cycle I have experienced since I started voting in the late 1970’s. The economy is in such a mess I am not sure any of the parties can fix it. Best thing would be to have a coalition government but I doubt that would ever happen.

Speaking of social media, I just got a notice from LinkedIn to make myself a contact. Somehow I now have three accounts on that platform, and they all get different feeds. One of them came from my last job and I have no idea how to access it. One I have had for years. And the third got set up when I logged in with Google instead of my email/password because I could not remember said password.

Yes I’m on Facebook but primarily for my “Outlander” fixes. I don’t have a bunch of FB ‘friends’ though. The ones I have are “Outlander” fans so that’s about all it’s good for.

I did find the bit about the Titanic auction being so successful.

I took my social security early and bought a new driver with my first check. Since we’re only given today, I figured that waiting was risky.

As for California license plates, it would be just as cool to get the first one issued.
