The story today about Aristotle (really about World Cup) was an interesting one. I do have to say though, as a non-soccer fan (and realizing you are apparently a very big fan), that I am getting a bit tired of the soccer stories and references. Lots of other great sport stuff (Wimbledon?!) going on as well you know! jk of course.
As someone who is so NOT a sports fan and even LESS of a soccer fan that aside from Bill's newsletter I wouldn't even know the World Cup was going on or that it was only every 4 years or that the nations participating in it had to be invited, I've got to reply lol
What I got out of this post is that passion - in whatever way it is directed - is something to be admired. The men written about today have a shared passion of soccer even though they are literally just random people from all over the globe with backgrounds that otherwise would have never let their paths cross. Yet here they are today in the same place sharing the same goal - being the best at soccer. Bill shared this with us because of one of his many passions: soccer. And the ability to teach a non-soccer fan a life lesson through a soccer analogy is phenomenal! This non-'sports fan' looks forward to many more life lessons masked in sports news!! 🥰
I agree. Bill does some of his best writing about people, I’ve found. S mentioned earlier, the US has been as successful as it’s been so far thanks to our birthright citizenship amendment. Rather ironic considering all the forces against its even existing.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and the stories behind these wonderful soccer players. ( I am not a soccer fan, but I am a fan of these fabulous player who became who they are through such hardships in their lives. ) The stories touched my heart. I wish all the best for them and you!
Alligators and crocodiles are scary animals ! Big, fast and deadly. You would think people would know to give them wide berth by now.
It’s sad that companies are eliminating physical items for ownership. Still remember the joy of loading programs from multiple floppy disks, but then I am old.
No real comment about soccer, not the least bit interested. Haven’t seen a game and don’t intend to. The only time I have watched soccer was back in 1978 because there was a cute boy on the team. Still got a picture of him somewhere, he sure was cute! I know there are some very talented people out on the pitch, much like any sport. But for me, it’s just a bunch of guys running up and down a field.
Great stories behind the World Cup action. Thank you. To counter the earlier comment about too much soccer: there’s way too much emphasis on American football and basketball, in my humble opinion.

And unless people like you choose to write about and highlight these incredible stories, who would know? Thank you for doing so. I am a traditional American football guy, but have watched more soccer the past two weeks than during the rest of my 64 years. I'm loving it and learning a lot about the game. Played at the highest level, it is indeed a beautiful game!

Have never watched a soccer(futbol) game?? Whichever it is. But, I am able to recognize heroes when I see or hear about them. These are all stories of heroes…we need these encouraging stories today more than ever. There is soooo much in our country ..the USA, that causes me to be depressed much of the time. Thank you Bill.
