Be nice to your paper boy or other youthful provider. He may one day be your physician, manager, policeman, judge, etc.
My mother was once examined by a specialist at a large, multispecialist medical facility. After hearing his name and voice, she asked him if he might have been her paperboy 20 years earlier. Yes, he had been.
That’s funny! Back in the 80’s, I broke the my boyfriend’s car key off on the ignition. The locksmith who showed up was a guy I went to middle school with. Was really glad we had been friendly, or that could have been a lot more expensive!
My husband wasn't an intern at his company, but it was his first job out of college. He has had several different positions, and weathered near extinction and a buyout. In August he celebrated 36 years at the firm. You don't see that anymore.
Indeed you don’t. I’m a Boomer so was raised with the belief that one stayed in a job for years; that moving around was a bad thing but circumstances made that an impossibility for me as it turned out. As for running into successful people who didn’t use to be, I had a few classmates that ended up doing pretty well.
I retired after working for the same newspaper chain for 39 years. It is a shame print died. Reading newspapers on line is just not the same, engaging experience.
As David Kra said, many kids were newspaper carriers, running their own businesses handling distribution, billing and customer service. Not sure what they do now for that experience.
I still read the printed local newspaper. Reading off a screen; is just not the same as holding paper on your hands. I also keep our local library in business! We have 40 or more little free libraries in our town, so I guess if the library went online, I could still find books to read
Glad people liked this today. I have been so "off" this week — I forgot that we normally do "Free for All Friday," and this was supposed to be one for next week. Whoops! Oh well, nice to change things up once in a while!
I'm with you, Bill. I turned on my radio this morning to listen to a gardening show that is broadcast on Thursdays. My husband told me a dj he was listening to said how we all get confused on holiday weeks like this. At least we're not alone :>)
I'm not sure if there has been an era where all four Commissioners in sports are as reviled as they are today. Out of these four deplorables, Goodell is the most likely to named spawn of the devil.
Regarding how many jobs we have had, I must be an outlier. Just four employers between 16 and 66. Bank mailroom, a packaging company, the Air Force and a consulting firm. Never felt pushed or pulled
I’m not one to root against anyone but the new head of Target needs to understand that they have lost a lot of customers by caving to pressure on DEI issues. My household of two spent hundreds every month. Now, not a penny.
Arnold Langbo started out as a sales rep for Kellogg’s and ended up being the CEO and chair of the board. I also worked for a company where my 19 yeas made me look like a newbie; there were many, many with 30+ years in. Myself, I’ve had more than a dozen jobs over my career.
I remember playing Nicky Nicky Nine doors back in the 60’s, none of us ever got shot! I have a feeling that travel advisor is going to end up being like realtor. Looks easy until you realize how much works goes into it. Booking travel is not easy, one screw up and you are black listed on social media.
And now I’m off to listen to It’s the end of the World to see where those lyrics fit.
