I have lost interest in the Olympics. It used to be thrilling, now it’s all about big money. Once they let professionals play, it changed the dynamics. I don’t think it’s affordable for many countries to host the games any more, it’s just a big money pit.
It always amazes me how fast things like the Panama Canal used to get done. Now it can take three or four years to get projects through municipal governments.
I agree. Once you are a paid athlete competitions like the Olympics should be off the table. Sports changed after the 70s with some players changing teams almost every year. Now you are rooting for a city/state and no longer a team.
The 1980 US Hockey Dream Team was composed entirely of amateur players. That is the last time I watched every game of an Olympic sport. I only watched a handful of the 1992 men’s basketball dream team, more form the novelty than anything.
