This topic reminds me of the seemingly innocuous question "when involved in a conversation, do you listen or wait to talk?" asked in the movie Pulp Fiction. It seems a lot of boomeraskers would do the latter.
You always ask for comments, & most commenters do respond w/ personal remarks, sharing a bit about themselves... rather than just a quote by some famous person... I believe, well, I know, you put a lot of effort into researching the main topic for each day, so when you ask for comments, you most likely appreciate your readers' true responses to your researched material.
What came to my mind when reading about asking questions to show true interest... I believe I've mentioned before, my husband & I began answering questions, from a book, some found on the internet, some silly questions, some very personal, thought-provoking questions, while we were dating. We agreed to marry after finishing one book. We've continued to answer questions from another book he gave me last Christmas, right before we start playing pool each afternoon. One day, the guy who was doing pest-control for our house showed up at that time. We included him in the question of the day. He gave a very thoughtful answer. Then told him the story, what I just wrote... he absolutely loved it!! However, said he didn't think the woman he was living w/, the mother of his child, would enjoy it. We had a copy of the original book we used & gave it to him, w/ hopes it would help their relationship.
The Charlie Kirk murder - my prediction is there will be a great divide (probably already is). Those who detest him because of some of his beliefs, vs the opposite of course, his followers, who will grieve. I actually didn't know who he was until yesterday. Senseless murder is what I say. Then I think of Luigi Mangione who was charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in November 2024. He was then idolized by followers, now has a fan club, receives donations while in jail...
get your definitions clear before you make accusations. Honesty has nothing to do with passive-aggressiveness. Uh, Mr. Quote Guy, Mr. AI reference user...
What is staggering is how there are enough on the left who think Charlie Kirk was extreme and used hate speech. That couldn't be further from the truth with the way he conducted his approach of "Prove me wrong" et al. It is the Tucker Carlsons of the world who are more apt to be accused of the original point. It is the fact that Charlie was the most effective, not divisive, in his dialogue, which included how well he was resonating with young adults. That scared the hell out of the progressives. BTW, I smirk at the comment about passive-agressive in this thread. Good golly, Miss Molly...
I have numerous times over several years said you are a narcissist - you are once again proving it by projecting, a form of gaslighting, claiming you have struck a nerve too close to home. However, look how suddenly you reacted to my initial comment about "commenters only responding by quotes" rather than share anything personal. I struck a nerve, rubbed it raw, you're now picking at the scab, it's bleeding... you can't let it go...
And you still can't/won't respond to the initial request by Bill to comment to his research. I'd like to do a search on all the posts he's sent out 'above the fold' having nothing to do w/ politics that you have ever responded to w/out any quotes. Why is that? You consider yourself perhaps too good to respond to another journalist's quest to publish something worthy of your reply? Many, many times, many of us have complimented Bill on the hard work & effort he puts into his research in providing us the reading material he posts for us at a minimal cost. We appreciate it by giving our comments. Yes, I realize his political links lean to the left. That's ok w/ me. I also realize many of his readers are also more liberal than I am. However, there are some of his readers that might realize that just because I call myself a Republican does not mean I support everything Trump does. I appreciate their being fair & open-minded.
Doh, only that he had the flags at half-mast for the Minneapolis shooting that involved children. Sorry I ruined your narrative.
Also, it is so gratifying to connect with someone who has eradicted his systemic racism from his DNA. GFY! We all aspire to your level of achievement!
Plus, I thought white supremists are typically angry people. In all the recordings of Charlie Kirk nary did you find him angry, despite all those who would try to stump the moderator with all kinds of insults and projection...things very familiar to the recipient of this post.
With that, I am turning to the Good Book and will focus my efforts on loving my frenemies as our Good Savior teaches. I just wanted to turn a table or two in the brood of vipers as I go there....
"Put on, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved,
heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience,
bearing with one another and forgiving one another,
if one has a grievance against another;
as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do."
~ St. Paul
"To you who hear I say, love your enemies,
do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you,
Yep, you live to point your fingers at other people. You constantly attempt to pick fights with me. Then, you do every single thing you accuse me of doing. Perhaps you could see someone to talk through your issues with me; otherwise, you will continue to trash and be mean spirited towards me to make yourself feel better.
The very nature of the boomerang conversation is to let others talk while you listen. You pontificate.
If you want to know something personal about me simply ask. That’s what rational adults do. Of that doesn’t work for you then just leave me alone.
“Associate with intelligent people whenever possible. You can learn from them, and you can influence smart people with logic. Stupid people just dig their heels in.”
You stated that "boomerasking" has nothing to do with boomers. Then why call it boomerasking? Boomers already get a bad rap because of the year they were born. Why contribute to that and continue to divide people unnecessarily? No, I am not a boomer.
In the hospital world, there was a lot of boomerasking, holding meetings to ask for suggestions, not taking those suggestions, and just doing whatever the hell they wanted to do anyway. It is one of the reasons I left the hospital world, after working there for 17 years. I didn’t want to live for retirement. I wanted to live now. I still believe that was a good decision. I’ve done a whole lot of living since then. It’s been a roller coaster ride. I enjoy the highs and try to be more patient and graceful in the lows.
Town hall meetings are very much like that as well. Two years ago, our town mayor and councillors asked for our opinions on how to potentially reduce the municipal tax hike of 10.5%. Guess what they did after hearing our many suggestions? They basically took none of them and voted for an even higher tax hike of 11.25%. You can bet your life I will remember this at the next municipal election. This mayor and the councillors who voted along with him need to get the boot!👢
It is very annoying and SO disrespectful to the “victim”(aka interrogated person). Sadly, the questioner does not realize that his intent is obvious. Not a great friend-maker ploy!
I volunteer for one of the oldest and certainly the largest nonprofit organizations that offers free mentoring to small business owners. The 10,000 plus volunteers are guided now by about 20 full-time paid employees and about the same number of paid contractors. Thank you for putting a name to the issue of asking for input just to be able to explain your own decisions. Now I actually know what to call the rather common practice. I agree... "waiting to talk" does not make a good leader at all.
Bommerasking is bad. We know that. So is “excess answering”. The need to take a question and diatribe about your thought, opinions, findings, etc. it ALSO doesn’t win friends. Answer the question in an organized and succinct way, then look for someone else’s comments.
Boomeranging is just as bad as talking over people, or not letting someone finish their thought before you start your comment. I have been guilty of both but am getting better.
I didn’t agree with a lot of what Charlie Kirk had to say, but quite enjoyed listening to his debates. He certainly knew his point of view and could defend it well. The real losers here are his wife and kids. Charlie went off to work like he did most days, didn’t deserve to get shot in the neck for that.
Old Charlie reaped exactly the vile, hateful rhetoric that he sowed. A racist, misogynist creature saying hateful racist words with honeyed lips is still a useless human being in my book. Thing is, he’ll be easily replaced by other vile, useless loud mouths. Mourning a white nationalist is a waste of my time and energy.
What has gotten lost in all this Kirk business is the fact that Russia invaded Polish airspace with a bunch of their drones allegedly on their way to Ukraine. It was so bad it got our NATO allies in a twist. Oh and the United States has a hundred soldiers there as well. It’s questionable as to whether or not our president knew this or if he did, did he care? Russia put an ally and our service members stationed there in danger but did we hear anything from our leader taking Russia to school over this? No he did not.
That kid at Hershey Park was very lucky. It still takes a village it seems. Kids can be slippery. When we were there with our two, one was in a stroller and the other, thankfully, was old enough to understand the danger of wandering off.

Passive-aggressiveness suits you.

Your actions betray you. Seems I struck a nerve too close to home?
I have an ongoing curation of quotes because they fascinate me. I learn much from intelligent people.
AI is not part of my repertoire.

I had no idea racists were all angry people. I’ve known many that are happy as they can be about life - as long as they are around other white people.
Bless your sweet little pea-picking’ heart. Thoughts and prayers right back at you straight from a patriarchal triumvirate.

Boomer as in boomerang. Like throwing something and getting it right back.
Great article today! (You have many great articles by the way, not just this one!)
