I was hoping you’d get to this.

Fred Astaire was told he “Can’t act. Slighty bald. Dances a little.”

Albert Einstein had to work in a patent office because no one would hire him

Beyoncé’s first band lost at a competition.

Charles Darwin dropped out of two colleges before becoming the scientist of fame.

Charlie Chaplin grew up in dire poverty with an alcoholic father and a mentally ill mother, and worked in a Workhouse in England.

“Dr Seuss” Giesel dropped out of Uni majoring in English lit and drew advertising for a living. His first book was rejected 28 times.

So many examples, so much inspiration!! My favorites, however, are Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela

My parents were both working on their PhDs - Dad in Chemistry and Mom in clinical psych when she became pregnant. Raising a family ended up becoming Mom’s priority (this was in the 1950s and 1960s) and she ended up not finishing her graduate studies and being an ABD-all but dissertation. So when she returned to work, she worked as a master’s level under the supervision of a licensed PhD psychologist, even though she had the same level of training as him. She was in her 60s when she retired. She applied and was accepted back into the doctoral program at PSU that she had started in and with minimal coursework was able to work on her dissertation and finally get her PhD in clinical psych. Never too old to learn or follow your dreams! A bonus for her - her neighbors were Penn State football players who she became a second mama to and who made sure nobody messed with her.
