After the election, 99% of people will get up in the morning, make breakfast for themselves or their family, go to work, and come home and attend their kid's school concert.

The only reason people don't want to talk about it is there is no way to support one candidate without total and complete abandonment of reason. Cognitive dissonance demands no one talks to me about MY choice even when it impacts everyone's choice in the end.

I disagree with you. I won’t say which side of the aisle, but I firmly…FIRMLY believe what you described applies to those who support one candidate, but not the other. “The other candidate” is the complete SUPPORT of reason. Obviously this second person is my candidate.

Matthew and Glenn - based on an objective look at your comments, you both sound like you are referring to the same person. Don’t leave us in suspense…say their name!!

This is only the most important election since Jefferson vs. Burr. It pits a small (and large, of course)-d democrat against a man who not only has no use for our Constitutional system of government, but who sees it as an obstacle to his own quest for ultimate power. After losing (and shooting Alexander Hamilton), Burr ran off to try and set himself up as emperor of his own country. With no territory north of Antarctica left to claim, and far more rabid supporters than Burr could ever dream of, what do we think Trump will do when he loses? That's what makes this election so very important.

Not sure I’m in the right section… my all time favorite James Earl Jones scene - when Sheldon in Big Bang Theory sees him in a restaurant and JEJ invites him to join him. I loved when JEJ belly laughed. Whenever I think of him, I am reminded of that scene. Makes me smile every time. 🥰

Every election is important on some level to someone, I think the media is responsible for some of the urgency. My take is who , while in office who contributed the most to benefit all americans

Because we are so polarized and because each candidate wants to take the country in vastly opposite directions, it seems like the outcome is extremely important for the future of the United States.

It's a real shame that politics is... political! In a perfect world, regardless of political party affiliation, the candidates would have the BEST interest of the people, from all class of people, rich to poor, to make life in the US better than anywhere else in the world. Instead, we have back-biting, lying politicians who have an agenda that is not for the best of the overall population. Who do you trust? It's a real shame to see how the rest of the world views the USA. We better wake up; this is the future of our children and grandchildren, and they deserve better.

There are many serious issues involved, from the specter of refusal to pass the SAVE act, to illegal immigrants taking over cities (Aurora CO, Springfield OH to name two), failure of citizens to support police and vice versa, specter of suspension of the filibuster to forcefully pass lopsided, I’ll-informed legislation, DA’s who refuse to prosecute clear violations of law, DA’s who invent cases out of whole cloth, drug deaths fueled by our untrusted competitors (China, Russia), companies who refused to invest in America in the 90’s and shipped our jobs to cheap labor countries with no interest in quality, attitudes driven by PC rather than common sense, a weakened military while wars opened on several fronts and threats of more wars to come. Yeah, I’m interested in this election.

"The Constitution of the United States has long served as the foundation of our nation's rule of law, guiding our civil society for centuries. It is now under attack to be dismantled, and we face a critical moment where upholding its principles is more important than ever. As a nation, we must choose the path of law and order, reinforcing the stability and unity that the Constitution provides, rather than allowing chaos or anarchy to take root."

Just sick of all the propaganda and misinformation from both sides. If either candidate could be open and transparent it would be better for the country.

To me this is a very important election in that I feel our way of governing is at stake. The amount of misinformation being given is astonishing. The facts are being overwhelmed. When did it become more important to vote for a party than the person? Simple common respect seems lost.

Bill - great article. I live in Arizona and we are heading more towards what Axios describes. With real threats being made on a regular basis. My post highlights the challenges we see and the chaos that is likely to unfold. https://johntfees.substack.com/p/replace-gop-censures-with-real-reform

No matter who wins most Americans will not enjoy or even see the benefits of all the barrage of promises from either candidate.

However, what all Americans will experience is the greatest division of a civilization of the American people if Donald J Trump becomes the 47th president!

I am a devoted Christian but I refuse to be blinded by the primes of a pro life president, the Church by themselves can take care of pro life matters better that the Government if they so care instead of looking to the government. My vote is not for sale and cannot be bought with lies for a person personal political aspirations for wealth, fame and more power @ money to build their family empire..

The only thing the government needs to do is protect religious freedom and advocate for it globally and they don’t need my vote to do that.!

Reread the First Amendment. Religion is safe from government. If Christian Nationalists were to have their way however, it’s the government that would not be safe from religion. A review of European history throughout the ages charted the reason for the First Amendment by the founders.

There so much over hype about everything. The Axios article is a great example. And the press just amplifies it because it’s click bait and they need viewers for their 24/7 networks. Both sides do it too. I’m tired of the hype about violence. I’m tired of the hype about disinformation. Tired of all of it. Just let it be a campaign and let us vote. Finally I’m tired of the fact that we have no real leaders. One one side we have a person who changes their views and what they say just so they can get votes. They have no core. On the other is someone who says they will make everything perfect and that four years with them will fix all the ills of this country.

Are these two candidates really the best we can do? Seriously?
