Unfortunately all the people I heard stories from that I would want to preserve have predeceased me and my recollections of the stories are probably 75% accurate and 25% inaccurate or my fiction....
Me as well, although there was an in-depth article of my Mom’s life at her memorial service, much of which I did not know. And her brother wrote a book about their parents, so I have that. Pretty vague on Dad’s side though. I think some of my cousins have more I formation on his parents but I haven’t asked. Not sure I want my kids to know my life story as I have done some stupid things and made some very stupid decisions.
I tend to go back and read comments all at once ... sometimes several days later.
Not knowing your story, I will just say that I have had people say they wanted their kids and grandkids to know their so-called stupid decisions. In part because they'll probably either make stupid decisions or be tempted to, and it might help to have their parents'/grandparents'/etc experience.
A very interesting thing for me was talking with people who had bad relationships, messy divorces, etc. I thought we would wind up tiptoeing around this, and maybe sometimes we did. But sometimes they'll say, no, it happened, and if someone else can learn from it and avoid a similar experience I'm all for it.
Mainly because licensing a photo of Lucy would cost 5x the daily revenue of this newsletter! I often try to find something thematically appropriate even if not 100% on point.
Good question about Lucy! The boy is actually at the completion of a dead left, which is similar to a shoulder press. There is no way he could shoulder press that much weight, especially standing.
Bill, I do like the idea of recording life stories. And I'm sure you, & others, remember my mentioning the fact that when I volunteered w/ hospice many years ago, along w/ others, we developed such a program, to audio-tape clients, put it on CD's & give copies to them for their relatives. We were nominated for the Mary Catherine Strobel Volunteer Awards. You said you didn't think it important to mention that fact when developing & now selling your product, because after all, you're actually doing something with the idea to sell it. I find it a bit ironic that many of the stories you write about are about the histories of people who had ideas, some of them got developed by others, & some of them didn't make any money & only thru historical research are becoming known as the originators of the ideas. Yes, I wish you success; however, a bit of a preface that what you're doing is not new might be honorable.

I wish I had thought to do this with my husband before his dementia got so bad. But then I did not know his ability to speak would go along with his mind. By the time I thought of it, his words were just a big salad that made no sense.
Melissa, I’m sorry for your experience. The time I mentioned above about recording stories was a wonderful opportunity for me. When I left that volunteer position, I moved to another state , I continued volunteering, at that time for about 8 yrs with an Alzheimer’s group. Each volunteer was assigned to the same client, each week, there were 8 of us at the table (4 pairs). It was for respite care for the care givers as well as developing long term relationships with the people at each table. There were about 8 tables each week—- then COVID hit.
Anyway, during those years I learned a lot about Alzheimer’s and dimentia, the differences, as well as many other similar disorders.
I'm sorry to hear this. I'll say respectfully I have done a few interviews already that were good, but they might have been better a few years earlier. As someone in my mid-50s, it was pretty sobering.
