I asked perplexity to list all the major volcanoes in the history of the world. It listed only a few dozen which was very disappointing. There must be hundreds. As everything becomes more digitalized, including humans, A/i will be making your decisions for you. You will get only the information it deems you deserve. So much for creativity.

A/i will control your home, your car, your job, your consumption and pretty much your entire life. I haven't used any food delivery services in decades and if I want something, I will go out and get it.

When I click on the Washington Post link to read the article about the AI emails, it forces me to create an account which I don’t want to do. Can someone tell me which AI performed the best in that task? Thank you.

Worst to Best

5. Microsoft Copilot

Score: 23 out of 100

4. OpenAI’s ChatGPT

Score: 43 out of 100

3. Google’s Gemini

Score: 44 out of 100

2. DeepSeek

Score: 45 out of 100

1. Anthropic’s Claude

Score: 50 out of 100

Claude’s emails weren’t perfect — even it once fell into the “Hope this email finds you well” trap and other telltale phrases that Skillings said are “soooooo AI.” But on average, Claude’s emails felt more human than the others, and it landed about five points ahead of my human-written emails in the judge’s scores.

Claude “uses precise, respectful language without being overly corporate or impersonal,” said Dhawan. “It was more structured, natural and emotionally attuned, making it feel more trustworthy than the others.”

Gallo said Claude even showed a bit of “self-awareness” in the test email about layoffs: It gave details about the company’s severance offering and then added, “I recognize this package is modest.”

What did Claude do better than a human? In business emails, Claude used research-backed arguments and seemed to anticipate objections that brought in context and ideas that I wouldn’t have thought of on my own.

Claude was also able to crack a few jokes. In our test of a funny email to persuade a spouse to move to the North Pole, most of the AIs were just punny. But Claude went for some real chuckles. Near the beginning of its email, Claude wrote, “Before you start frantically googling ‘how to divorce someone who wants to live with polar bears,’ hear me out.” Said Skillings: “Okay, this is funny.”

Sorry I left this part off:

Even if an AI was technically being “polite” in its writing, it could still come across as insincere to humans. Claude won out, on average, because it felt more natural. “The best AI isn’t just efficient — it builds connection by balancing warmth, clarity and emotional context,” said Dhawan. “This is the real challenge for AI-assisted communication going forward.”

I’ve noticed Wa-Po does that a lot. They must be desperate for subscribers. Maddening.

As I read the article in the miami herald, I couldn't help think of what WASN'T reported on this "victim." That paper is in the wrong country. Venezuela could embrace your antics.

It would be great if anyone would report anything on this guy — including the US government. We have no information at all, just a blanket statement that they are all supposedly gang members and criminals.

I don't think I'm going to convince you, but as I wrote in my intro, this is the entire reason we are supposed to have due process. So that somebody somewhere has to put on the record the reasons behind this action on this person specifically.

That anyone in the US is being accosted by masked men and dragged off of our streets only to either be shipped off somewhere else or deported without due process is atrocious and those who can’t see it for what it is are ignoring the fact that there is no longer a functioning democracy in the United States. It is a lawless regime that is following an unforgiving playbook titled Project 2025. We were all warned this and worse would happen. Between Musk running rampant throughout our government institutions and 47 hammering the rule of law into submission, anyone who fails to recognize the signs is flat out delusional about the outcomes of such societies.

As for that DoorDash story, that’s just nuts.

As for AI writing letters of any sort, isn’t proper letter writing no longer being taught in elementary schools? If not, why not? Anyone who turns their brain over to AI deserves it go be turned to proper mush.

As for those who moved from big cities go other places, thanks for the infusion of cash to my state. Home sales were crazy. Sure helped me sell my 27 yr old doublewide home, as it was, for twice the price we paid for it. Those houses don’t usually hold their value all that well but the timing was perfect for me. Other homes in my area were being bought sight unseen for absurd amounts of money. Unfortunately, that was the area that was hit so hard by Helene and now is being threatened by wildfires. So things don’t always work out the way one might expect.
