How about a pre-July 4th birthday party:

and reading these, they are all so positive... just say'n πŸ‘

The Atlantic link - oh, yes, have dealt w/ sludge... however, on a positive note, the other day, about coffee drinkers, I said that right after I posted about how much coffee I drink, our coffee maker died. I called the 1-800 # & the guy I dealt w/ was so wonderful, walked me thru what was needed, sending pic of proof of purchase, pics of cutting off the cord & last night rec'd notice that the new coffee maker is on the way!!! I expected it to take a longer time, due to the holiday. So, it's nice to have happy stories to make up for the sludge.

Spirit in the Sky - probably know all the words. I have The Bridge on my radio in my car, & at home, & this song comes on. Sing along in the car, & while we're playing pool w/ the music on in the afternoon. Bday is coming up & I would love a karaoke 'thing' so I could actually know all the words to whatever is playing. Love the oldies, love country. When the 2 mix it's great! And Black gospel, really nice, altho The Bridge doesn't play that. Elvis did some good gospel.

Regarding "Spirit in the Sky": with all due respect, Norman Greenbaum is not a one-hit wonder. He followed up "Spirit in the Sky" with the quirky "Canned Ham" -- charted in both the U.S. and Canada in 1970. My favorite line in that song is one of the backup singers asking "...when are you going to give me my canned ham, Norman Greenbaum?" Even if he was a one-hit wonder, he has one more hit than I do.

Happy Independence Day -- having stood on the North Bridge in Concord myself, I recall Ralph Waldo Emerson's lines from "The Concord Hymn": "...here once the embattled farmers stood, and fired the shot heard 'round the world." Please stay safe, and end the day with the same number of fingers you started with!

From the CNN article:

β€œWhile all households would see their taxes reduced, some 60% of the benefits would go to those making $217,000 or more (the top 20%). These folks would receive an average tax cut of $12,500, or 3.4% of their after-tax income, in 2026, the analysis found.”

β€œ But the lowest-income households, who earn about $35,000 or less, would receive an average tax cut of only $150, less than 1% of their after-tax income. Middle-income households would see their taxes reduced by about $1,800, or 2.3% of their after-tax income, on average.”

I would gladly forgo my $6,000 tax credit so the lowest keep their medical coverage. And it only took us 249 years to get back to this point.

If true christians followed the teachings of Jesus we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

My Spirit in the Sky memory? I was in Grade 4, probably the only person in my class who had a paying job (washing dishes at a truck stop) (and yes, I was about 10 years of age). Rhonda Sheward complained about how she could not find the 45 of this song. I looked next time I was in town, found it and bought it for her. I still think of her every time I hear the song.

Didn't read the Big Beautiful Bill blurb because I think Trump has already wrecked the US and the less publicity I can give him, the better. And I have had some really, really good customer service and some really, really bad customer service. I just wish they would make speaking clear English a requirement for people on the phone. I don't care if you have an accent, but I still need to be able to understand you to have a conversation.

Whatever you believe Germany should have been doing in 1933 is what we all should be doing now.
