It feels like the administration is building a private military force with the high-dollar recruiting efforts. The article also noted “same-day” offers, indicating minimal background checks for weapon carrying, masked law enforcement officers.
Just as disconcerting is what I’ve read regarding a plan to lower FBI standards, requiring no college degree for new recruits and reducing the training from 18 to 8 weeks.
“Current and former agents tell the Times that the plan appears to shift the FBI’s focus to street crime and being more of a police force, instead of taking on complicated cases involving financial fraud, public corruption, and national security.”
work for ICE: I imagine the derisive comments; however, most of those immediately approved seem to be military veterans who have served tours. I'd like to know how many of those who protest have served such tours? Also, others applying are legal, as well as naturalized citizens who love the US & want to give back. The chants of the small # of protesters remind me of the stupid stuff said to our veterans during the Vietnam War - remember, that was during the lottery when many didn't even volunteer, but protesters spat on them & called them 'baby killers'
THIS MIGHT MAKE THIS LONG, but for anyone reading the article Bill linked to:
Individuals most likely to be hired at the recent ICE expo in Arlington were qualified applicants for criminal investigator and deportation officer positions, especially those with military or law enforcement backgrounds. ICE officials specifically noted high demand for applicants with prior experience.
Ideal candidates
Based on reports and job listings for the event, ideal candidates for jobs as deportation officers or special agents possessed the following qualifications:
Military or law enforcement background: ICE Chief Human Capital Officer Tyshawn Thomas reported a strong turnout of current and former law enforcement officers. An internal line was reserved specifically for these applicants, who were often given priority.
Strong sense of duty: Many candidates at the expo said they were motivated by a sense of patriotism and the desire to "serve [their] country".
Prior federal employees: This includes retired employees, who ICE sought to rehire. Prior federal employees often have the needed experience and can move through the hiring process more quickly.
Law-related education: For criminal investigator positions, a bachelor's degree is generally required, with applicants holding degrees in criminal justice, homeland security, and finance being sought after.
Ability to pass screenings: Applicants who were prepared to pass the necessary pre-employment screenings, including physical fitness tests, medical exams, and background investigations, were most likely to receive on-the-spot offers
ChatGPT stuff is pretty scary; however, what's also questionable is the lack of parental time spent w/ kids these days as they get so enmeshed w/ their virtual worlds (& not related to this article, but at younger & younger ages, unsupervised). This kid, kicked off the team, ended up at home w/ IBS, which in many cases points to stress, was then pulled away from a lot of real social connections. His mom, a therapist, should have recognized that, & along w/ dad, insisted on monitoring son's fake social world instead of after the suicide, when THEN they found the time to sort thru the boy's ChatGPT & print out 3,000 pages... Did they spend dinner together, w/ open conversations every night before the suicide? Why did mom not see the marks on her son's neck even tho he tried to help her see HIS DISTRESS???
4 day a week sounds great; however, what they've found was also discovered in a small town in CO many years ago when a friend of mine was a teacher & they tried the 4 day a week system. Parents couldn't do it, 'cause who would watch the kids on that 5th day? They were already paying for before &/or after school care 5 days a week, so if they went to 4 days, they couldn't afford an extra full day... Plus as the article mentioned, elder care...
I would love to see your citations that support your first paragraph. And please, don’t conflate Vietnam war veterans with masked ICE agents…draftees vs. volunteers. That is hitting too close to home and is offensive.
Imposter nurses? A lot of doctors also are imposters. Even despite medical school indoctrination.
Yes, there are imposters everywhere in every field. Many doctors are excellent and continue training long after medical school.
