..."9 Things Experts Wish You’d Do in Midlife to Increase Longevity"...and just how many of these "experts" have done these things and lived into their late 80's or into their 90's which would be actual proof they work and they are not just guesstimating? What do they mean by longevity? Living to 80, 85, 90, 95 or 100?
My father just turned 99 and did maybe one or two of these things. He is still in relatively decent health walking with a cane and mentally sharp. By longevity do they mean living a long, long time no matter your state of health or living relatively healthy into your later years without any lingering debilitating restrictions?
In my mid 70's, I don't do vaccines and would never get a shingles injection. Maybe I make a list of my parents chronic conditions...doesn't matter since I don't believe in genetics.

My father did none of those things and died in a memory care unit at 89 after living in a cloud of dementia for 20+ years, always complaining about having no control over his life.

imo, that's a no. I'm a strong Christian & believe in evangelizing, but doing that sort of thing is more likely to send a negative than a positive message. I have my ears pierced, change the earrings in my right ear (2 piercings), but never in the left ear (1 piercing): I always wear the fish in that one. So, when people interact w/ me, they often will notice that. The way I 'spread' the word is to try my best to do what Jesus would do. I volunteer weekly, interacting w/ a variety of people, other volunteers, as well as customers; I donate $; I interact w/ a variety of people every week doing various other activities. Sometimes religion comes up, but oftentimes it doesn't, & it's rarely the main subject. I don't attend a church. If an opportunity arises when I do get to discuss religion, like now, I will. I won't argue w/ anyone about their choice. If I were on an airplane 'witnessing' such, I'm hard of hearing, so personally it wouldn't affect me, but my eyes would be on my book. Not towards that person, nor looking around at others' reactions.
What happens to those million dollar companies when the owner gets sick, gets hit by a car, gets otherwise incapacitated?
I wear noise reducing headphones so I don't have to listen to other passengers. One of the best investments I have made. As are doing the things listed are things I have always done. My parents were ahead of the times and drilled most of those activities in us from a young 3.
It seems like herd immunity worked because parents used to do the right things by their children and believed in science that had extended our average lifespans significantly. As for me, I’m not one to wish we’d go back to reading sheep entrails to predict the weather or next harvest or the practice of bleeding to reduce a fever or delivering babies with dirty hands. Tossing science out the window boggles the mind.
As for all the rest of this newsletter, it’s looking like I’ll be passing it along to my kid who is teaching how to use Claude for doing the more mundane tasks at work. If he ends up cutting his own throat, maybe the first article will give him another avenue to explore.

Wondering where it says in the bible to preach on flights. I missed that growing up in a southern baptist home.
As you said, actions speak louder than words. Kids notice when parents do model the behaviors they espouse.
Walking the walk speaks far louder than talking the talk. Words without actions are just noise.
OY! The more I read about AI, the more I cringe. The dumbing down “do it for me” approach does not keep our brains fit.
Oh boy - chat bots. I use chat a lot and will be asking the prompts suggested. There is a part of me that doesn’t want to know -

Thanks Bill.
