Yep. After being uprooted by my dad for most of my young life (not unhappily), I joined the Navy in his footsteps and I’ve uprooted myself more than a few times. The last was selling our house we’d just made how we wanted and then buying and living in an RV for coming up on 9 years now. We’ve spent the night (more than a few actually) in all 49 states that you can drive too. Did Hawaii too just cause and quite a few other places as well and yet we still haven’t figured out where we want to live when/if we grow up.
Yep, the second one too though maybe not God chuckling just life. Also chuckling 🤭
And big time yep on the third. As Kenny Chesney sang it, “Don’t Blink” as life moves very fast and also, don’t waste it as it’s the most precious thing.
have a plan - well, kinda. I was going to Australia, had everything planned out, had a passport (not like the character in the group who didn't have one), was going to get my graduate degree while teaching undergrad; stay for 5 yrs to decide if I liked it or not; return to US if not. But then I met my first hubs & chose not to go. I should have gone. But then I wouldn't have had my 3 wonderful sons & 6 great grandkids, & now new hubs who I can discuss everything w/.
House lawmakers will leave Washington today until after the November midterm elections; in other words, off to campaign - both sides do it when it's to their advantage. Makes me sick. Politicians get elected only to work for themselves (campaign) the majority of the time vs work for the people.
I'd like to add a crazy fact: the TV show The Monkees won two Emmies in 1967, Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Comedy for "Royal Flush," the very first episode. It was creative, absurd, unexpected at times, and amusing. "Outstanding" works. The competition? The Andy Griffith Show, Bewitched, Get Smart, and Hogan's Heroes.
I loved The Monkees, used to watch them and then the original Batman with Adam West, after school Davy Jones was the first English accent I had heard, and I dreamed about marrying him. And Batman, no one could Watusi like he could. That show was so bad, but it was cool for the time.
We still quote Get Smart on a regular basis (missed it by THAT much!) And the original shoe phone and the cone of silence. They don’t make shows like that anymore more, probably a good thing.
Get Smart was perhaps my favorite, altho I watched all of them. Wished I could twitch or wiggle or whatever y’all term Bewitcher could do with her nose! 🤣
Up rooted and tossed around by life, fate or choice and survived all of it in spite of myself. Never really knew what I wanted to do with my life so did end up as chief cook and bottle washer the first time around. Reinvented myself several times after all that. Except for my two wonderful boys that first time around, the second half of my life was far better. Totally sold out and uprooted everything and left my beautiful mountains to set up housekeeping in a brand new country which is where I’ll no doubt check out of this life.
Haven’t we all made plans that went to pot? I followed a guy over to England in the mid-1980’s, thinking he was the love of my life. Turned out to just be a jerk who cheated on me on my 24th birthday. Even more recently, hubby and I had some great retirement plans, then he developed dementia and died, so I am back on my own for the first time in more than 40 years. Has been good and sad.
You would think by now that there is no such thing as job security, it’s just an illusion. I was in the same career for 40 years, but the job I started with was not the job I ended. I took secretarial training just as word processors were coming on the market, long before the internet and desktop computers. Moat of what I learned is now obsolete. Had I not taken the initiative and kept up with change and read anything that came cross my desk, I would have been out of a job last century. But my skills and mindset kept me employed in many industries in many different cities. Companies can go out of business or get sold at any time and careers can become dead ends with so many jobs are being replaced by AI. The best preparation is to be a well-rounded generalist who knows a little about a lot of things and a lot about some things.
Some people are great at telling stories, my dad was one. Me, not so much. Or maybe it was just that my husband never bothered to listen. I am working on that.
I am really hoping the Republicans get their faces handed to them on a platter in the midterms. Maybe then Trump will pull his head out of his ass and realize that the US is a country, not one of his companies, and he has to start running the country, not running his mouth.
Please don’t lump Republicans in as MAGA gang. Trump is never going to get his head out of his ass. The asses who are licking his boots need to wise up & realize true Republicans are not supporting his shitshow.
My apologies, I do realize there is a growing number of Republicans who are starting to push back on Trump. Should not have lumped them all together, generalizations are never good.
