“Inflation continued its downward trend to 2.5% year-over-year in August, the latest consumer price index report showed, reaching the lowest level since February 2021 and approaching the Federal Reserve's 2% target. The data solidified market expectations the Fed will lower interest rates when it meets next week.”
Bill: Still really love your column. Original and sincere. Can’t make that assessment very often these days. We should have a get together soon. Come for lunch soon. Bob Woodward. Email: Timeout1014@gmail.com
Wow! That brought tears to my eyes. As if I were there then, but of course, I wasn't. Thank you for sharing this memory with your readers. Professor Donnarumma may not have been well-known but made such an impact on you and your graduating classmates; what better legacy can anyone hope to leave.
Oh my goodness, you took me right back to that moment. Unfortunately that meant crying in Denver airport as I wait to board a plane to Nashville. Carmen Donnarumma was a larger-than-life professor I will never forget, and he gave us a beautiful sendoff. I never considered it from the point of view of the odds he was up against , but if ever there was a man who exhibited quiet genius, it was him. "All that is gold does not glitter." Thank you for this!!
Referring to Speaker Johnson’s inability to either count or read the room, I refer you to my favorite Congressman, Jeff Jackson’s Substack post. He nailed it.
Did those debate numbers include all the streaming sites Bill? I watched on a couple of different sites.
Good move by DOJ over Terrorgram but no doubt was just the tip of a larger iceberg unlike that one the Carnival ship hit in Alaska.
As for those with more money than sense so are now joy riding in space, one day those odds no one thinks about any more, will roar into being and come calling for one or two of these unserious people. Airplanes still fall out of the sky and several astronauts died either trying to get to space or trying to get home from space. One day, the inevitable will happen and all that money won’t mean a darn thing anymore.
Not a Ferrell fan but am glad he’s having second thoughts about his Reno skits. Some skits really don’t age well. I’m still an old Laugh-In fan. Funny, harmless laughs.
"But back in the day, audiences were bigger" ... I think that's incorrect. Back in the day, they only had TV. The modern number isn't counting a LOT of people who watched on social media, websites. and streaming.
Hi Bill, I am Douglas from the Ecuadorian rainforest. You and I talked about two years ago when I was just getting started with social media and I was looking on how we could grow followers. I am writing to you for two reasons: the first - your writing about the use of the expression "and remember, I love you". Second - to celebrate that we reached one million followers on Facebook yesterday. (that plus around 1.4 million more on TikTok and Instagram gives us around 2.4 million followers) All the videos that are posted on social media are in Spanish, but I spontaneously began to end virtually all the videos that we have done with "and remember, I love you", in English. Tens of million's of people have looked at the videos and without exception, the use of the expression "I love you", has made a major impact. That is why your article meant so much to me. It affects people in a wonderful, positive way. What more can we ask for? To find our videos go onto any major platform and type in yachanafoundation Thanks, keep up your work, and remember, I love you Douglas
Some good news:

The economy’s way of saying “I love you?”

Thanks Bob! Great to see you are still here! I will send you an email.
only comment today, for the commencement speech --- ahhhhhhhh, wonderful!!
I wasn't there and I had never heard of this professor. Nevertheless, I cried when I read the speech. No wonder you remembered.
Same here. Those three little words can lift a lot of weight.

You did share this story before. But I loved it all the same the second time around!
