When I left my company in 2018, they held a little going-away celebration. It sort of turned into a bit of a roast. But, it was fun.
Among the stories people told, there’s one that our chief operating officer shared that stood out to me. I hadn’t realized he’d remembered it.
It was from a few years before. My wife and I were brand-new parents, going through the sleep-deprived stage that I think most new moms and dads experience. After one especially rough night, I remember getting out of bed that morning and trying to convince myself that my lack of sleep didn’t matter.
Oh, the mental gymnastics: Sure, I barely slept last night, but if you take the average of how much I’ve slept each night for a year, it’s barely a blip. I’m sure this won’t be much of a problem.
