No one should ever receive more than one pardon . DA

I was flying from DC’s National Airport in the early 2000s when the choice of a mobile device was a BlackBerry and a Treo. I had the latter since it provided better phone service. Treos were somewhat bulky and I hated the holster so I often traveled with it in the open section of my briefcase.

Well, I dropped my briefcase while taking it off my rolling suitcase right at the gap between the jetway and the plane. Of course, it fell in the gap. The flight attended summoned the pilot who went down and recovered the intact phone. When I mentioned my embarrassment at the pilot having to recover my device he reminded me that he was the Captain.

The folks flying planes take their jobs seriously, especially when someone does something stupid. Many thanks to that Delta Captain all these years later!

Oh, and the Treo was none the worse for the experience.

I don’t read every post (sorry!) but when I do it’s always enlightening and informative. Entertainment and education are a feature. Not all newsletters achieve this combination. Just remembered another feature, your writing also prompts reflection. Must try harder to read and reap the benefits from your efforts!

Thank goodness for the men and women who fly us to our many destinations both domestic and foreign. They take their jobs seriously and have a vested interest in making decisions that benefit everyone even if said decisions may inconvenience their passengers. Arriving alive is the goal after all.

Bird flu hit the domestic turkey farms again which has increased turkey prices about 30%. And to go along with your last point, maybe change up your Thanksgiving menu. The holiday is supposed to be about giving thanks for your food and family not what is on the menu.

Trump is pardoning all sorts of criminals. It’s just another day with him doing this.

I’ve done embarrassing things. In a corner store in London, I bumped the corner of a 7 foot triangular display of cereal boxes and they all came down. I’ve exploded bags of peas and jars of jam from dropping them on the floor in supermarkets. Booked a corporate board dinner for the wrong day. None of which are as disturbing to others as having a plane turned around, but they were all as embarrassing for me.

And I agree with a previous poster about pardons. Seriously, if you did the crime and were declared to have done the crime by a jury of your peers, you need to own it. No political favours or paybacks allowed. There are enough people in prisons who have been wrongly committed of a crime that those who are righteously guilty should not have their records cleared. Especially for crimes against the state or gun-related crimes.

And especially to receive a pardon and they break the law again. SMH!

The captains decisoin here really highlights how complex airline operations are when safety protocols intersect with passanger inconvenience. Its fasinating how the lithium battery concern drove the turnaround, showing that airlines are taking fire risks much more seriously after past incidents. The fact that everyone involbed probably felt like they were in the wrong somehow captures your point about hidden battles perfectly. Sometimes the most mundane mistake creates a cascading effect no one anticipated.
