I met the love of my life when 2 friends asked me to join them for drinks if my dinner date ended early which it did, thankfully. When I arrived, they were chatting with a man sitting next to them at the bar. They had told him that they were expecting a third. When he saw me walking towards them, he said to himself, please, God, let her be the third! I sat in the only seat available, the farthest away from him. By the end of the night, my girlfriend had switched places with me so I could sit next to him as she could tell there was something there!! We had our first date the following night and have been together ever since.
I first saw my wife in psychology 101 (her psychiatrist brother, an MD in the Army, did one of the classes as a guest). I actually met her while we were both working PT at a department store when she asked me when the final exam was scheduled. We’ve been married for 49 years and the same brother is probably my best friend.
From all the news it sure seems like there will be a great deal of unemployment with the purge of so many government employees. Guess they can all work construction in Gaza for the new construction project. Do you think Greenland, Canada, Panama and Gaza will get representatives in congress?
Canada has no desire to be part of your country. Except Quebec, you can have Quebec. In fact, we will trade you Quebec for Alaska. . . . . What a deal!
My comment was also kind of tongue in cheek. Quebec costs the rest of the country a lot of money for bilingualism and in equalization payments. I am quite sure it's a lovely part of the country but the pushiness and superiority that comes from the government there just turns me off.
Quebec is a bit of an outlier for Canadians. They are more or less French(think de Gaulle). Nationalistic but not the Canadian way. One sees flags flying but not the maple leaf flag we associate with Canada. I have to say, however, when we were there in 2001 the people we met and interacted with were very nice and helpful.
Your Newsletter is something l really look forward to. I thank you once more.
I love all the stories of how people met. Unfortunately things have not worked out the same way for me. My first wife died of cancer 6 years after we were married. I've been married twice since then but haven't been able to 'make it work'. No l'm 75 & enjoying my own company.
My first job was as a dishwasher at a nursing home. I was 16 and worked with a few friends. I learned the importance of showing up and not letting people down. It felt good being part of a team. I learned how important it is to be good at what you do not matter how trivial it might seem to others.
Not that it matters, but I never met the love of my life.
my first job was washing dishes in a roadside truck stop when I was 10, almost 11. The restaurant owner called our house looking for one of my siblings to come into work because someone hadn't shown up, but I was the only one home. So I called my mom and she said go for it. Been working for a salary ever since. That turned into one of the best jobs I had, worked there for 6 years as a dishwasher, short order cook and waitress. Even pumped gas once in a while.
When I was 5 years old growing up in a small town, a 7 year old girl moved in across the fields next door. I looked at her and told my older brother I was going to marry her someday. This year we celebrate 37 years of marriage, three daughters turning 32, 29, and 27, and our first granddaughter turning 1. Love doesn't just exist at first sight, as for me it has existed for every sighting of her for going on 54 years now with many more to hopefully come.
I was still single at age 42 and I prayed that God would give me a guy who was a faithful Christian, age 42-52, lived in my city, was 6’5”, and was a widower (they stuck it out to the end!). I plugged this into a dating sight and he was the only guy that popped up. Sure enough he was the real deal and we married 4 months later. God has giving us 7 wonderful and fun years together.
I love the question idea and also all of the ones you listed as possible future questions. Thanks for continuing to provide a great newsletter each day. I look forward to reading it every morning.
It was the summer of 1979, and I had just gotten out of a disastrous relationship. I wasn't looking for another. My friends and I , 4 of us, were at the Rambling Raft race and met 4 guys. I wasn't impressed with the guy I ended up with at first. We spent the next few hours talking, and I found I had never felt so comfortable with someone in all my short life. I didn't want to lose that and took him home. He's been there ever since. We celebrate 45 happy years next week.
I enjoyed answering quite a few of the questions even though they are your possible questions for a future edition.
My first job was a cashier at Mr. Sibs popcorn. I was 16 & loved being able to work & earn money. Babysitting was no longer all that. I learned how to maintain the patience that I had learned growing up with parents that were hearing impaired, though I was not.
Many, many years later I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. My patience maintains my positive attitude.
Younger me would know, financially here, IT is not that imperative as life is short.
Okay now I will mention having met my husband in 1987. Oh boy, time does fly. I was visiting my sister & his cousin lived across the street. We were introduced & since his thought was that I was going to go back to my home, which was a 4 hour drive South of the city my sister lived in, that we should go on a date. He asked me out & I of course agreed to the proposal. We dated for 5 years which ended up with a proposal from him & me agreeing yet again. He is fond of telling me that I was supposed to go home. I reply with I did, here with him IS home.

Hah! I don’t blame you one bit. My comment was more tongue-in-cheek. Why Quebec?

I agree, the people in general are nice, it's more an issue with the politicians, both federal and provincial.
Much like here…
As usual. Leave it to the politicians.
😂😂😂.

It's not an option, but can I say all of the questions? Since I have to pick one, I went with the financial advice.

I think all five poll questions are suitable - looking forward to sharing my story on each one.

I really like the new changes to the newsletter. I look forward to seeing all the suggested questions being featured.
I also like the questions concerning different ideas than the parents, and financial advice.

I think you should ask ALL those questions! The most intriguing to me are the religion and first job questions.
I think Trump has more chance of being assassinated by an American than by Iran. Or Iraq.
