seems like a bit of nostalgia to be reading again about McD's, etc, & the 'Chain Fest'... 'cause I remember comments about frequency, or not, of eating fast food & other places. IE: I can't remember the last time I've been to McD's...

re: nostalgia, as long as one doesn't just live in the past... my ex's family did so. No exaggeration, always. Never, ever planned for anything in the future, not even dinner, until it was time to eat --- hmmm, maybe they did a lot of fast-food, 'cause that's what was available... hahaha. They would spend hours HOURS looking at old pictures & wanting to talk about them.... as far as improving one's mood, or keeping one from being depressed... perhaps there's a 'fine line', like I said, don't JUST live in the past. Ex sister-in-law attempted suicide so many times lost count. Attention grabbing attempts, not serious. Ex MIL major major hoarder & agoraphobic.

To me nostalgia continues when I do things that we did as a family!! My Dad, who loved children, even dedicated a ‘Childrens Day’. Family night at the Detroit Tigers; Riding the Horse drawn Carriages throughout Mackinaw Island; Playing Monopoly; Eating Coney Island Hotdogs; Going to the ZOO; St. Clair River And Harsens Island in our Houseboat; Walking the Mackinaw Bridge!!!!…

My grandfather was the one who always had candies in his pocket. Gross humbugs, but still candy. My dad had a candy dish in the living room, we would sit on the kitchen and you could hear the grandkids whispering and trying to open the jar very quietly. Now I find that I always have candies in my pockets and TicTacs in my bag.

Speaking of nostalgia, my dad used to make 150 pounds of garlic sausage every fall. It was quite the production. Dad would put a huge pile of ground beef on the kitchen table and play around with the spices until he was happy, then other would help to mix the meat up to make sure the spices were distributed. Then Mom would get the casings in place on a hand powered grinder and someone would push the meat into the grinder while someone else powered the grinder. It was always good sausage! My hubby was cleaning out some boxes and came across some photos of a sausage making day, good memories.

I always thought that governments were not above the law, but it sounds like Trump thinks he is supreme ruler and answers to no one. Sad state for a country to be in.

Indeed, a sad state for our country to be in.

I have great memories of my grandfather, who taught me how to shoot a .22 (I have it still) and roast corn with a fire up next to a tree among numerous other things. I sure miss him and still have the flag that was draped over his coffin when he passed (WWII vet, Purple Heart and bronze star). It is interesting to think about how people that are long gone can still have a powerful impact on our lives.

I’m not crazy about everything that Trump is doing, I don’t wanna do what about what about, but right now there’s an investigation about the auto pen and Biden. Follow that up and tell me about who was ruling who and all the government BS.

You have to consider the fact that this is not just talking about what has happened in the past. But what happens in the future? I’m not just talking about Trump and Biden. Our future. Our constitution. No one is following the constitution. Biden did not. Trump is not. You cannot point fingers.

How about some supporting documentation for your words regarding use of the auto pen? Otherwise, you are no different than an ICE agent with a mask (since you are anonymous) and no ID.

You post no identification of your own. You’re such an investigative reporter you check out the report that I’m referring to. Step up big boy. It’s the current investigation. I don’t have to prove anything to you.

I called BS on your blatant distortion. That is the epitome of relevance.

I got a huge dose of nostalgia as I was cleaning out everything in my life as I got ready to uproot and move out of the country. Believe me when I say, that was a 77 year trip down a lot of memory lanes; taking pictures of the pictures I had accumulated, finding items hidden in corners and under piles of magazines that I just knew I would revisit at some point but never did-at least not until then. Then there were the books that I had read or not, saved VCR tapes, dishes, silverware, furniture that I loved but was not going to ship. Cutting ties and strings was difficult but I survived it. As the saying goes, you come into this world with nothing and thus shall you depart it.

When I moved I took videos of everything in the house, from the attic on down, every room. Sent these to my kids asking them to “imagine” walking thru the house, putting post-it notes on what they might want because both parents had died (I was divorcing with total ownership of all possessions). No one wanted anything except some books. None of the “fine” china, blah blah blah. They had me send better pics of some of their “momentos” but they didn’t want that stuff. I downsized majorly when I moved, then when I moved into my new home found I didn’t need “stuff” I’d brought with me, so downsized again. Then remarried & we both had duplicates of “stuff” so AGAIN downsized. IT FEELS SO GOOD TO DOWNSIZE. I don’t buy anything now without getting rid of something.

Have you heard of “Ostalgie”? It’s a portmanteau word combining “Ost” and nostalgie where people from East Germany believe that aspects of communism were better than the current capitalist system: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ostalgie

Is that why they celebrated when the wall came down? Were these folks actually around as adults during the good old days of communism?

Pulling down the Wall was part of the action to bring the Germanies together. But once the Wall came down, reunification had issues for at least some groups. If you read the link, some of the things women appreciated was child care. Too, unemployment went from (allegedly 0%) to 20% and if you believed you suffered from the change, perhaps you’d be “ostalgic” too.

I hear you. Call me crazy but I would trade worries about child care for communism any day.
