Almost everyone knows someone that they care about who could use that phone call to help them know that they are remembered. Sometimes I think we hesitate because we haven't talked with them in a while so we feel guilty and aren't sure what to say. Call anyway. You don't need to explain why you haven't called or defend yourself. Just start with, "I've been thinking about you and wanted to call to say hi." You'll both feel better for it. ❤️
One of the life events that can really make you confront loneliness, social isolation, and/or just lacking a local network to tap for assistance is when you're scheduled for an out-patient procedure that requires a "responsible adult" to accompany you and take responsibility for you at discharge.
Sure, you can make a reservation with a local business for someone to meet you at discharge. But, is that really what you're craving when you're feeling at your most vulnerable? Or, would you like to see a smiling, friendly face of someone you know will take care of you?
That is the "Kithli difference." You choose from Kiths in your vicinity, meet with them online to get acquainted ahead of time, so you can undergo your procedure at peace, confident you'll be well cared for by someone you've already met.
I think a lonely person has the personal responsibility to fix that state. No one else can fix the situation, go and meet people for you. Get out, get involved. Join a group, volunteer, go to church, take a class. I live alone but seldomly feel lonely. When I start feeling like tht, I reach out to friends or go walk and interact with strangers.
How can someone who is around for another few years make decisions to change the design of naval carriers? To “make it look more pleasing?” Politicians should stay in their own lane. We had a similar thing here in BC in the 90’s. Needed new ferries, the politicians of the time got involved and we ended up with three vessels that did not work on the routes and then could not be sold
Yeah .... you're making me think more about this whole study. I think it's the loneliness - mental health loop that just makes it harder. When people are in that frame of mind, it's more difficult to say: I just need to make it my priority and get out there and meet more people, etc.
