Technology only helps the criminals and people to become criminals as 99% of these turds are never captured or put out of business. Amazing that after becoming a user of more technology I have to spend gobs more on protecting myself from fraud and privacy invasion and data collecting. Maybe I will go back to a landline.
I have had the same telly number for my 15 years of using a cell phone and my "privacy invading" calls have dwindle to one or two a month. I think the secret is to not answer any calls that have numbers you don't recognize. After a while, they figure the number is not active so they move on to newer prey.
Then again. I still get junk mail to an address I haven't lived at since 2000. I am still in someone's computer I guess.
I love Apple’s feature to only accept calls from people on your contacts list; all others go to VM. It is easy to block a number as well. If I want to talk to someone I can call them back. Also like the messages features where you can simply click the spam link and it is reported and gone!
It looks like the US is well on its way to an oligarchy. Look what that has done to Russia.
love the feature on my phone that makes it so spam #s don't even ring. I never answer other #s I don't recognize. I still get voicemail from people saying they will help me pay off the taxes that are due - hahahaha!
bye bye bye Biden, bye bye - & I say that as a non-Trump lover. Everyone is aware of Trump's resentful nature, but Biden is also extremely resentful. And no one has ever answered how he has accumulated his wealth as a lowly paid politician over the years. OR who has been running the nation these last several years. Or will Jill be prosecuted for elder abuse...
The only thing that speech did last night was reinforce the fact that he is a liar and a bully whose presidency all but destroyed this country by attempting to shred the constitution piece by piece. So much for unity, unity, unity. Good riddance.
My phone has a screening option that I use for any number I don't recognize. Although I also use my personal phone for work so it makes it a little tricky. I almost got caught in a computer scam a couple of years ago, it was like an out of body experience. Was rescued at the last minute by a police officer. Funny, once he identified himself, the people didn't want to talk any more.
I don't think it's just the US where the rich are taking over, it's happening around the world in most democracies, if you can still call them that. I don't know what the answer is but feel for those at the bottom of the pile. Having been there, it's a terrible place to be. Canada has talked a bit about a guaranteed income for all, but I don't think that really solves much. It's been my experience that people don't value what they don't work for, so would we end up with a generation content to live in their parent's basement playing video games all day knowing they are going to get paid every month for doing nothing? Oh wait, we are almost there already.
I will say the quality of politicians has gone down dramatically over the years. Now it's more hold your nose and vote for the least worst choice rather than get involved and vote for the best one. There are so many special interest groups and behind door confabulations these days that the average person is just a bank for government whims.
Most of the time, when I tell them that I am on the no-call list, and I am respectful, they are respectful in return and say that they will take me out of their system. If the company calls back, I am gruff, repeat that I am on the no-call list, and tell them that I have already told their company. Do I need to email the state attorney general? They don't usually hang on for that last bit, but I can talk pretty fast.

I rarely get a real telemarketer now, if it’s any consolation

You are so right about not answering the calls. They prefer to invest in calls that are answered.

Sounds like you are talking about Trump.
