“The right of citizens who have attained the age of majority to vote shall not be infringed. The Congress shall enforce this article by appropriate legislation.”
Nor should it be necessary. Tons of elections have been held before this push by republicans for an UD knowing full well that it would be difficult for some(you know, those who wouldn’t vote for them?) to vote. Besides, when voter fraud is detected, it’s usually republicans doing the frauding. Mark Meadows is just one who comes to mind.
And finally we see that voting does not make a bit of difference. The gov wants you to vote for the master it chooses while you think you are voting for the master you want. In any event, prove that you are still not a slave. Yes, you still have the right and power to vote but when so many votes are now faked, does it matter?
I think your mom would be damn proud of her kid. I know I would be. I dream of having a Constitutional Amendment just as you’ve written. There’s no wiggle room in those few words. Let’s get through this election first though. We’ve got a lot of voting to do on our way to Nov 5.
There will always be a need for asterisks. What it’s someone wanted to vote weeks after Election Day? What if the person from Illinois decided they wanted to vote in a Tennessee election ? A more essential asterisk should be the laws should be voted on my legislators subject to term limits…
Come on…when the election is over it is over. Someone that has a mail in ballot postmarked in time but delayed by the USPS will not make a material difference.
I do agree with you 100% regarding term limits for every elected AND appointed office.
Growing up, my silent generation parents would say that voting was my civic duty or responsibility. I don't know if that is a truer statement than constitutional right, but it resonated with me. In the recent primary my current state only returned about 37% of the ballots. That is essentially 4 registered voters making all of the decisions for the remaining 6 registered voters. Just ponder what elections would look like if 60% of the registered voters actually engaged in the decision-making process.

Yes! That’s what a democracy means.
P.S. Great column today, even in low power mode!!
I disagree with the writer: providing ID at poll or following other processes to ensure one person=one vote should not be controversial.
A voter registration card is plenty. When presented, the voter is checked against the role and marked off.

So you’re comfortable with DC requiring more identification to access their public pools for entry than exercising the franchise?
What’s a public pool???

Few and far between. None anywhere near me. Plus, you missed my point. Enjoy!
You missed mine first; local governments are requiring more for add on services than for the primary duty of a citizen to vote.
Well. It’s like I always say. Vote early, vote often. 😊
Your mom would be very proud of you Bill!!

Conspiracy theories never have any proof.
“…a belief that some secret but influential organization is responsible for an event or phenomenon.”
Anyway, for all we know you are a Russian, Chinese or Iranian troll trying to get us all riled up so you can try to interfere in our elections.
Is that an AI troll?
I think your mother would be proud of your proposed change.
Good article!
I don’t remember having read it before…
Your mother would be so proud!!
