Great lead headline, had to wade through the slanted articles placed above it, particularly the always slanted Claire Suddath bit....catchy headline to blame white men for all of earth's perceived disparities. It's one reason why Bloomberg is no longer for me.
I’ve got just one question about white men and blame. Who has been in charge in the US since some of our ancestors landed at Plymouth? Natives? Women? Blacks or men? Specifically the white variety. White men have had a 404 year head start in getting us where we find ourselves today. I, for one, am all for setting a smart woman loose in the mess and seeing what she can do.
100%! Every female exec I had as a direct report outdid the vast majority of their male counterparts for some reason. They made me look good and I did everything possible to reciprocate.
The WSJ eviction article reminds me a lot of the book Evicted by Matthew Desmond, which won the Pulitzer Prize. That book came out in 2016 so this is very telling that things have gotten much worse since that time. The reality is that people don't matter much in this country; profits and money do, which is why people are evicted out of their homes. Yes, I understand this is all a financial transaction. People are not people in these instances. They're just pawns in a game. Except people are people with feelings and souls. God says to love your neighbors as you love yourself. Well, this makes me think we don't love ourselves well.
The other WSJ article about the archivist is sad, too. History is basically being edited by the National Archives workers who don't want any confrontation with Trump supporters (like Josh Hawley mentioned in the article). Whitewashing (literally) our history doesn't help anyone. How do people learn from their or their ancestors' mistakes if these things are deleted and ignored? Do we want Germany to deny Hitler's existence? People do evil things, but people also do really good things. Both have to be given the same lens.
Political spin or fear monger? Or are those the same when used to cast doubt or aspersions to the future actions of the other side? For shame on the press for being so biased as to push this out. I reluctantly say for shame on Bill for introducing it to what was once a free space.
Can we all do better? Be honest? Love one another? Be an American tribe, not a political partier?
Orwell was referring to the single party control of thought and speech. Something far more sinister but easily imagined based on todays examples from our press.
Colleen Shogan is a disgrace to American history! God FORBID we learn about our true past! Instead, let's just sweep all the inconvenient bad stuff under the rug and pretend it never happened. And all because she wants to kowtow to Republican bigots and bullies who might pull her funding if they don't like what they see. Nice spine, Colleen!
I apologize for my outburst. Colleen is doing the best that she can. She clearly is not the right person for the job she holds, but that doesn't mean she isn't trying. I hope that whoever is responsible for placing Colleen in her position will consider someone more suited to the job of archiving our actual history and not the history we would like to see have happened just because some events or people are not pleasant to contemplate having occurred or acted as they did. And I hope the people who vote in the legislators who would withhold funding unless they get their own way will consider voting in new legislators who will recognize that one cannot erase history just because one doesn't like it. It happened! Archive it!
Your part about "Mr. Mancinelli and others who have tried to awaken their loved ones from this trance often feel powerless, even after they’ve done everything to shatter the fiction and protect their assets. They say it’s as if their parent had been brainwashed into a cult." hits home. It is so frustrating to see friends and loved ones basically lose all common sense during a romance scam. I'm trying hard to find a psychological switch that actually helps. Great read, thank you!
I suspect that you love the “How did you all meet” stories because you have such a good one yourself! 😊

Spot on Darrel!

Oh wow, just wow. The political spin.

My thoughts as well. Surrendering in advance much?
