Nice story but you missed the most impactful act by Elliott, forcing SWA to sell the jets that the airline owned and rent them back from the new owners. Cash in Elliotts pockets and increased operating costs for the airline.
The old accounting adage states: “If it appreciates, own it; if it depreciates, rent it.” Depreciation is also a line item expense.
Since it is a public company the money goes to the company balance sheet, not the board members. All public companies views investors as the customer, not the product or service user.
Interesting article. I'd be curious to know if people are abandoning their SWA credit cards. The annual fee has gone up and now that they're like any other airline I'm not convinced that it's worth having. Would love to hear what others think!
I think what has been released of the Epstein files is merely the tip of the iceberg. We will likely never see the bulk of material and especially anything to do with trump. Good to know people are reconciling the data to determine if there are missing items. We also need to see all the materials from the storage units.
"If this committee is serious about learning the truth about Epstein's trafficking crimes, it would not rely on press gaggles to get answers from our current president on his involvement; it would ask him directly under oath about the tens of thousands of times he shows up in the Epstein files," the statement said.”

It puzzles me how our government can arbitrarily decide to remove Medicaid funds from Minnesota if federal taxes are being paid. That sounds like a targeted revenge action. Didn’t SCOTUS already rule on that or did the Heritage foundation legal team find another loophole like they always do with tariffs?
I was sad to see Southwest’s changes. As SW didn’t fly out of my area but did out of Greenville, SC I did use it to fly out to Washington state. Because of its policy at the time, my return saved me $300.00 in fees that would have been added to my credit card on any other carrier. It’s too bad customers have gotten so used to being screwed over that they’ve seemingly considered these horrible changes to be normal. So glad my flying days are behind me. It used to be fun. Now it’s a pain in the ass.
I think that management made those comments about people not abandoning or revolting before the changes had actually hit. I have flow 5 flights on SWA since the change, and every flight has had a significant number of unsold seats, more than I would have ever expected before. Their revenue optimization has driven prices up, their bag fees has caused massive consumer backlash, and most importantly the SW in air experience has degraded so much, forcing everyone to stay 3 in a row even when there are lots of open seats, not being able to put carry on anywhere near your seat, their opaque boarding groups, have caused most of us that used to book SW first to now compare prices on every flight and unless SW is significantly less most of us will now book on other airlines. SW lost all its points of differentiation and added nothing. I can't wait to hear how management spins the declines that are coming in 6 months - I am sure they will blame the economy instead of being transparent and blaming Elliot and their poor operational decisions and execution. And EVERY SW employee I have asked about it said that they needed to make changes, but they all agree everything has gotten worse.
