I think perhaps one of the benefits of being 53 (and in menopause?) is the experience (and wisdom?) to remove "hasslers" from my life - and, I suppose I am lucky to not have any in the "family" category (for now!)....:)

Another outstanding essay! Here is an unavoidable hassler in my life:

Trump, Who Calls Mail-in Voting ‘Cheating,’ Just Voted by Mail

President Trump has long fixated on mail-in voting to bolster his baseless claims of widespread voter fraud. But he recently used the method in a Florida special election.

You can always depend on a hypocritical malignant narcissist to do exactly what he doesn't want to allow anyone else to do.

Jerks. Hasslers. Garden-variety assholes. The older I get, the easier it becomes to delete these people from my life as quickly as possible without any residual feelings of guilt or regret.

Growing up on a farm as an only child expected to entertain myself has proven to be an incredible gift of my busy, hard-working parents. I learned quite early to enjoy my own company and be happy in my solitude.

Same here. I got along just fine during Covid while others were going stir crazy. My younger son is a lot like I am too. I used to worry about his singular lifestyle then looked in the mirror and saw myself. We have a few really good, close friends and still sane family members so we’re good.

You didn't mention spouses, but the study did, and it seems they fall more or less in the middle. Thankfully, I'm crazy about mine, and occasionally because of him. 🤪 Interesting piece, Bill, thanks.

My hubby was both a hassler and a nice guy, depending on the day. I can agree it takes time off your life when you get corrected regularly, when something you do gets redone because it’s not done the way that he would. Now he has dementia, I have my life back and am starting to do the things that I have wanted to do for years. And I am feeling younger as time goes by!

And as terrible the things Bill Cosby did, the awards in US courts are just getting stupid.
