Kate, an A-plus preferred member here, remembering the little snak-packs of peanuts! ("bags fly free" is going the eay of "I fly for peanuts").
Darn it...Peanuts are a whole food, not the graham cracker and pretzel confections of this year..
My trick is to accumulate the graham's in a quantity sufficient to make a piecrust! (Whirl in blender, add melted butter and cinnamon - sugar optional - press into a pie pan, and voilà )
If it weren't for the companion pass, which still makes SWA the most cost efficient way for us to fly domestically, i'd consider booking elsewhere. Breeze and Avelo just showed up at our regional airport.
a bit more in the book about Biden: One of the most revelatory moments came at a 2024 fundraiser co-hosted by actor George Clooney. “Clooney was shaken to his core. The President hadn’t recognized him, a man he had known for years. Clooney had expressed concern about Biden’s health before—a White House aide had told him a few months before that they were working on getting the President to take longer steps when he walked—but obviously the problem went far beyond his gait. This was much graver,” they wrote. “Clooney was certainly not the only one concerned. Other high-dollar attendees who posed for photographs with [former President Barack] Obama and Biden described Biden as slow and almost catatonic. Though they saw pockets of clarity while watching him on television, and onstage later that night, there were obvious brain freezes and clear signs of a mental slide. It was, to some of them, terrifying. Obama didn’t know what to make of how his former running mate was acting. At one point, in a small group of a few dozen top donors, Biden began speaking—barely audibly—and trailed off incoherently. Obama had to jump in and preside. At other moments, during photos, Obama would hop in and finish sentences for him.”
and now to Southwest - used to be a major fan - was about the only way we'd fly, w/ kids in schools in other states - had so much mileage, flew free a lot... loved the humor from the attendants!!! I still look at Southwest when going somewhere, in fact flying w/ them in June... I compare more now. Won't be flying to Newark for any reason...
and I felt there was a bit of sexism going on at the Grammy's (altho I didn't actually watch, I just skimmed thru some pics) - why weren't some men dressed so fashionably, too???? Tho I did have a thought that some little girls might be watching & saying "I wanna grow up & look just like her. She's got class, huh, mommy & daddy, or whoever you are sitting there w/ me watching this w/ me..."
In honor of the “Wanna’ get away with something” headline and the first of 7 things, here is an excerpt from a NYT article by Eric Lipton:
“Now that President Trump is back in office, his family is profiting from his brand: At least $2 billion has flowed to Trump companies in just the last month. The ventures include real estate, a cryptocurrency and a private club slated to open in Washington with a $500,000 membership fee. Now, Qatar may give him a new presidential airplane.
The ethical mess is obvious. Trump is both the commander in chief and a business partner of foreign governments in Serbia, the United Arab Emirates and Oman. The White House says his sons run his companies, so there’s no conflict. Legally, that’s true.
But Trump is still getting rich (or richer) from all of it. And that leaves incentives for the president to pay back his business partners with policy decisions designed to help them, which is how the law defines corruption.”
Anyone curious why Qatar would just “gift” him a $400 million plane?
Only flew SW once as they flew out of an airport an hour away when I had a perfectly good airport available 5 minutes away. I can say though that although my trip out west from the east coast was miserable; not the flight just my bulkhead seat in the very back next to the window and up against the bathroom, it ended up saving me about $600. in luggage fees on my return trip. Had I been on any other carrier, I would have eaten those.
Still fly SW (tho not to Yurp in July). I’m companion and we are able to nearly always get the exit row aisle, which matters since I’m tall. It’ll be interesting to see if the premium seats have more legroom than that.
Loved the article in the Guardian. So appropos what Biden did (and as if Harris needed Biden to "destroy" her). Hopefully '28 will bring us better candidates than our last two (three) admins.
okay, for all who are interested in the Palace in the sky from Qatar for Trump. He will not fly in it because it will take at least 3 yrs to be upgraded to AirForce1 specifications. He'll continue to fly in the 40 yr old Boeing that has been 'promised' to be upgraded... Trump has told Boeing he's looking elsewhere for the "palace" to be brought up to standards. Boeing heard this & said, "Oh, we CAN do it, NOW..." the following is in my head - uh, after they get rid of DEI...
HOWEVER - THIS IS WHAT'S GOOD: Meanwhile, Qatar gets a contract with Boeing for 747s (I don't know the exact #, but over 100). SOOOO, This is a WIN/WIN for BOEING AND AMERICA - more workers in AMERICA!!!
It is anywhere from 150 to 210 planes, depending on to whom you listen. That has zero to do with trump. They are actually 787s. And time will tell.
Trump loves to take credit for things he had nothing to do with, line an India/Pakistan cease fire.
Trump also exaggerates, much like musk. To wit (according to Time):
“Speaking in Qatar, Trump said the deal was for 160 airplanes and worth over $200 billion—though the White House later issued a fact sheet stating it was for up to 210 jets and worth $96 billion.”
It will be interest if there will be enough qualified US workers to make this all happen in less than a decade.
Uh…Boeing made the deal. That’s how companies work. They have, like all companies, a sales department independent of our government. The exception to this is trump and his family business, wherein he leverages the presidency every way he can.
Honestly, I am surprised and perplexed you would ask a question like that. Are you OK?

Read Heather Cox Richardson today if you really want to be sick.
Yes! She is detailed, factual and supports everything in her column with links.

Trump or Biden, whose administration made this deal? Darrell, you know so much give us a date.

y'all, pay attention to gaslighting answers and add'l questions...
How did I not answer your question? Neither administration made the deal.
