I was triggered to comment by your promise that tomorrow's email would be "more fun". I got both emails back to back this morning (?) so made a point to go read it before commenting (we lost every game soccer story ;-).
Yes, it was more fun. But if I had to choose,the 5-years-ago miscommunication story is more important. Not as fun, and the soccer story has applicable messages for right now, but knowing more about right now will help us apply the "more fun" communication messages better... And in the big picture, understanding the reality of right now needs to be the priority. Again, to help us be able to take steps to make things better in the big picture.

I am frightened by the implications of what's happening in California.
I'm in Canada.
What's happening in California matters. For everyone.
2. What is going on with immigration that federal agents a) wear masks; b) ambush people outside courthouses; c) raid Home Depot parking lots; d) invade businesses?
3. Why pick on California? There are plenty of immigrants in Texas, Arizona and Florida.
4. Why trample over due process? What about the 14th amendment trump swore to uphold in his oath of office?
5. Why threaten to arrest the Governor of California?
6. How have we arrived at the point where the Governor of a state feels the need to sue the president over the actions of the president?
7. You’ve already sent in National Guard troops so why send in Marines and not more National Guard? That is beyond the pale.
It seems like the current administration is simply trying to pick a fight with California. This bully-like action is all insane and the root cause is sending an army of ICE agents to raid areas of California. Could this simply be more sleight of hand misdirection from everything else that is going on?
When the democrats use the faces of the ICE agents to dox them and their families, putting all of them in danger for doing their jobs, they have a right to wear masks. The people who don't have that right are the terrorists setting property on fire and assaulting the police.
The Federal government has a constitutional obligation to enforce border security and states do not have the right to interfere. They don't have to actively comply, but they are legally barred from interference. Something Newsome and other blue state politicians fail to realize. Texas, Arizona and Florida are not actively interfering.
By the way, why does everyone scream for due process when Trump does it but when Obama deported 4 million illegal immigrants everyone looked the other way? Let's not forget (even though AOC tried to make everyone believe Trump did it) Obama was the first one who set up cages and separated children from their parents; yet he was the hero of the story. His administration was also accused of drugging and abusing children in the detention centers. Yet crickets....

You also didn’t address my point of why aren’t these massive raids happening in AZ, TX and FL, which has nothing to do with troops coming in. There are plenty of immigrants in those states that aren’t being chased like what is happening in CA.
If the federal government has a constitutional obligation to follow the constitution doesn’t the president also have the same obligation? Like following the 14th amendment? Why marines and 2,000 more guard troops if the state doesn’t need them? What about states rights like Roe v. Wade, etc.

It is all about the constitution. Those 3 states are actively removing illegal immigrants with criminal records, so they don't need federal intervention. CA is actively defying the constitution; even hiding illegal immigrants in this situation, hence the raids.
You forget the part of the 14th amendment that guarantees that right to persons born or naturalized in the US. Jumping the turnstile doesn't automatically grant you that right even though some blue states are providing healthcare, housing and services meant for US citizens only.
Roe v Wade is a state's right and the federal gov't gave it back to the states, with much pushback from the left. What's your point on this one?

When gaslighting stops miscommunication will take a huge hit. For now though, I'm all for the military presence where leadership fails to protect its people from violence.

U.S. Marines have served honorably across multiple wars in defense of democracy. They are heroes. They shouldn't be deployed on American soil facing their own countrymen to fulfill the deranged fantasy of a dictatorial President. This is un-American.

In 2020, Trump said it was ILLEGAL for a president to move in the National Guard without approval from the governor.
