I enjoy 2 cups of coffee, black, each morning. When I worked I'd had another mid-day. I haven't had a soda in so many years I can't remember the last one - it was probably a diet A&W root beer, & I didn't finish the can. I probably saved the rest to make a root-beer float - yummy!

when I lived in another state, raising my kids, Cracker Barrel was one of their favorites. There was often a wait to get in so the store area was fun to roam around in. They also had a great service where you could check-out audio tapes of books if you were on a driving trip, then find another CB (always close to the interstate) to drop it off, free of charge or exchange for another. If you kept it, you'd be charged.

RE women being drafted into the Danish military, during the days of the lottery draft, which coincided w/ women's lib, which I supported equal pay, etc., I also believed women should be drafted. It surprised me how many women's lib supporters thought that idea was awful. I thought their pov was hypocritical. Of course after the lottery, many women volunteered for various duties.

I haven't had soda since 1983 but I do drink coffee. It's less now though, since Covid changed my taste buds. After spending 3-4 months with no sense of taste or smell, it came back slowly. Since then (it's been about 3 1/2 years) I still get waves of 'taste apathy'. Some mornings my cup of coffee hits the spot just right. Other mornings it tastes like dirty water. I rarely find myself finishing a full cup, whereas I used to pour a second before I started working. I'm hoping it will still contribute to a longer life though, like the studies show.

I have the same issues with red meat now too. Sometimes I love it, sometimes it's like chewing a ball of yarn. Covid, the gift that keeps on giving.

sorry about your Covid issues!! My sister-in-law had the same. I'll have to ask to find out if her's are still affecting her.

I have red meat about once a month - I love it, but it's not the best thing for you, imo. I haven't had a hamburger in many years. When I have red meat it's a beef tenderloin. In fact that will be tomorrow night when we celebrate our anniversary. Or sometimes when people are wanting beef briskett - that's good, but we'd never have it just the 2 of us.

btw, after I wrote the note above, our coffee maker bit the dust, before husband had his first cup. It was just under the 3 yr warrantee - 1 month to go!!! So a new one is on the way. Meantime, we pulled out the old trusty Mr Coffee 5 cup maker for times like this that will get us thru till the new one arrives.

Please check with your doctor if you have osteoporosis … caffeine has been shown to inhibit the absorption of calcium. For someone with advanced osteoporosis who takes high doses of calcium supplements I’ve cut back to one mug of coffee a day. I used to have a pot of coffee a day and my doctor said that probably contributed to the condition. Btw who measures coffee in “cups”? I assume only those having after dinner strong “Turkish” coffee. My coffee pot with ten cup marks is actually three “mugs” of coffee a day. Hmmm was i the mug?

There have been several studies done about this issue with mixed results. Here is a link to one of the many about this.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23880351/

There are a lot of things that affect the absorption of calcium ranging from the type of calcium, when it’s ingested along with the other minerals associated with calcium absorption. There are also genetic factors to consider as well. So the motto of “moderation in all things” may be the way to go as some studies seem to indicate that high coffee intake might be a problem.

As with other things, you have to take this with a grain of salt. Studies have come out against consuming too much coffee. Five cups is excessive but I can see where some people might have that many.

I drink about 3 cups in the morning and maybe another during the day sometimes. I can hope that this is helping me live a better life, but mostly, I drink it because I like it and it's become a habit to have the coffee in the morning.

As for the draft, yes, I think everyone needs to protect their country. Equal opportunity for everyone to do that.

Uh yeah. A few but they’re no longer a part of my life. I learned a long time ago how not to make myself miserable.

I hate what this nasty administration is turning my country into. At the rate they’re going, the country I once knew will be unrecognizable so what will be left to love or admire?
