I’m sitting on my back porch, enjoying my banana berry smoothie and laughing! I too do not like bananas, so now I guess I need to try pineapples and mangos with them.
I had the precursor SARS virus to COVID in 2012, which left me with anosmia and phantosmia (olfactory nerve damage causing loss of smell and olfactory hallucination). While my sense of smell has mostly regained, I still am unable to eat bananas, melons, cucumbers, oranges and grapefruit because they smell and taste foul. I used to love all these foods but can detect them even when mixed in smoothies and salads. So many “diet” recipes use bananas as replacement for dairy, fats, sugar so am now happy that this gives me a reason why I can omit them!
Bananas should only ever be eaten by themselves. They are gross mixed with other things, including smoothies. I whole-heartedly agree with your assertions.
Pineapples and mangos, however, are absolutely delicious!
During my smoothie days I’d add half an avocado to get the creamy texture (I had no idea about the PPO, I was trying to avoid additional sugar!). The berries masked the taste completely
I also don't like ripe bananas, but once in a while, I will eat bananas that have a bit of green on the peel, I I find the texture not as mushy and to me they taste sweeter. Think about it and give it a try.
Interesting about bananas. I’m a ‘me too’ in your group. 😵💫😜s

Bananas are fine but I loathe okra other than fried, as well as eggplant. Weirdly, I like other squash. Go figure taste!

Just noticed your username!
Yeah, my childhood nickname, given by my mother's brother, was a variation of 'banana'. I've learned to embrace it.
We were discussing food/nutrition a few days ago along with Bill’s GLP essay. I just noticed this column by Leana Wen in today’s WaPo:
Big Tobacco didn’t just sell cigarettes. It shaped what Americans eat.
New research shows how cigarette companies brought their addiction playbook to the food industry.
I get where you're coming from but here's a sure fire way to eat bananas.
Slice banana. Top with French vanilla ice cream. Smuckers hot fudge sauce in top of that. Cover in whip cream.
Not only do you get a treat but it's part of your 5 a day!
