In Atlanta, in a suburb called Doraville there are 2 Waffle Houses right next to each other.

Trader Joe's is at least 10 miles from me now. Where I used to live, it was closer, & I'd go there regularly, altho parking was awful. I still have one of their shopping bags.

tried following the link about the Post expanding, but it got hung-up on too many ads or something so I closed it down...

That's a nice story about Tulsa - never heard about that before. I've visited there - knew someone who went to the university. It's a really nice 'town'

and of course, I clicked on the wave-riding canines! Got me smiling 😄

The NY Post is a tabloid in the truest sense of the word, as close as you can get to the National Enquirer without changing the masthead. At some point soon the NY and CA versions will become weekly, finalizing the the transition to complete “tabloid journalism.”

The nearest Trader Joe’s to me is 48 miles and 1 hour and two minutes drive (per Google maps right this moment) from my house. That’s the nearest Dunkin’ and iHop as well. Two years ago my franchise desert finally got a Starbucks though and I must say my wallet is the poorer for it.

I do live at the birthplace of the original Meijer however if you’ve heard of those.

Thank you for the wonderful articles. Yours is the only newsletter I always stop to read.

We have a similar situation with Speedway gas stations in the Cincinnati area. The most recent one was built at 11885 Hamilton Avenue. The older one is barely 2 blocks away at 11620 Hamilton Avenue about a 1-2 minute drive from each other.

Those of who live in L.A. who have shopped for years at TJ's all agree that the parking is in short supply and that customers turn into warriors in combat mode looking for a place to park. Then, once inside the store, it's very chill. I'm lucky enough to live 2 blocks from TJ's. So when I walk to the store and I see that the traffic has backed up on LaBrea Av, I can only shake my head in wonder.

Just thinkin’ They used to put a MacDonald’s close to a Burger King SO why not compete with yourself instead? The corporation gets ALL the profits!

There have been times that I have not stopped at a store because it was on the opposite side of the street and was inconvenient to get to, i.e. had to make a u-turn, had to go around the block and come back, could cross the street there, etc. I can see that this is a very likely problem in California. Also Trader Joe’s notoriously have small cramped parking lots. Perhaps the old store was worse than normal for TJ’s in this aspect.

Bill, I sometimes say "I've seen that before"... I try not to do that too often, 'cause I know you do a lot of work finding good things for us to see/read. So I didn't do that this morning. I didn't mind saying I clicked on the doggie link 'cause I love seeing animals of all kinds, whenever I can, EVEN THO I know it'll be a repeat. Yep, just say'n, NPR didn't beat ya, or anyone else to the news of the day...

I'm an early bird. I wake up around 4 am every day. One of the things I love reading every day is "Nice News". Today it came into my mailbox at 5:36 am. Their "Photo of the Day" was the surfing pup, which had a link to a YouTube. Your mail came in at 6:06. I guess from now on I really need to clarify when I see something/read something BEFORE I read it here, I need to announce to the other readers, "Hey, I saw it 1st somewhere else".

WKRP was and is still a classic.

Never been in or near a Trader Joe’s, probably never will be. Have been in a Whole Foods, but won’t be in there again, either, not my kind of store.

I do agree there are Starbucks everywhere. We are in a small town, about 10,000 population, and we have two stores within a block. Neither has decent coffee . . . . .☕️
