I agree that having some downtime during the day is a good thing. But beware going down a rabbit hole when you do so. One of my morning newsletters usually includes a funny Tweet or Instagram, I usually look at that in the morning to start my day. I love beginning with a smile and/or a laugh.

Excellent reminder that just because organizations and our leadership teams may have custody over our bodies, when they imprison our minds they lose far more in the long run.

I have been a boss for many years and I have never cared if my colleagues goof off. I know that they are passionate about their work and that’s all that matters. I goof off too. Everyone should. We need breaks and it is a sure thing that more and better work gets gone when people are relaxed and able to recharge. The days of the sweat shop are long gone.

Hire the right people, place them in the right roles, manage to the desired outcomes and you create an environment for engaged employees. That includes a little fun at work.

Great reminder Darrell! Actually if they hire right and create the right culture, they can create more than just a little fun at work.

That was a missed opportunity wasn’t it. I had a long weekend and a lot of driving, wasn’t really thinking when I put this together.

You’re entitled. I’m almost sure no one here want you to think you work in a sweatshop for us.

:D I am the alt-tab queen! When I worked in an office, I used to really screw around with my boss (whom I really liked, he was great!). I would change the wallpaper on my screen at random times. He would walk by and have to do a double take :) We had a great time! All of us were under so much pressure all the time that a tiny giggle was worth it!

Really enjoyed this. Brought back memories of me and my coworkers circa 1993 playing Naked Tetris at my desk and the boss walking in! Couldn’t get the dang thing to turn off. I died of embarrassment.
