the wizard who taught me retail business asked me, how much are you willing to spend to get a customer to walk through your front door? Nothing works as effectively as loss leaders like a $4.99 chicken and $1.50 hot dog. If the company loses a dollar on each, they've built a base of repeat customers lon the cheap. Those are customers not just shoppers who will spend a lot more than a dollar shopping. It creates goodwill whereas an item on sale says to the customer, catch me if you can; i.e., is it on sale when the customer needs it or wants it? is it a closeout? out of season? I like how you ended the option 3 - "Ingenuity breeds ingenuity" - putting more emphasis on thinking vs knee-jerk 👍
& the Olympic soccer player - like another player commented, I've heard of giving an arm or a leg for something/someone - well, my best wishes for him & his team
no indication about what caused the truck accident - or what happened to the driver. Hope he's safe, & hope the accident was caused by something other than driver error.
I love dragonflies!! And have lived thru times of cicada swarms. Once during those times I had one infant son who rode in the stoller so I wrapped the stroller in plastic so he could see out, leaving areas for air, then had the older son carry an umbrella. The kids thought it was hilarious.
Big concern about pending/growing war w/ Lebanon & area...
Wasn't there a treatment option for that field hockey player's finger that would have allowed him to complete the tournament, then get surgery and recover properly? I admire his desire to compete, but there HAD to have been a better option!
“He consulted a plastic surgeon that same morning, who after examining an X-ray offered the option to amputate the finger below the top knuckle, Dawson said.
The alternative would have been to insert a wire to reconnect the tip, requiring months of healing with no guarantee of full recovery. But, the surgeon told him, amputation meant Dawson would most likely be able to play in 10 days’ time.”
Thanks for the info! I recall many years ago, San Francisco 49ers' safety Ronnie Lott got the tip of his pinkie mangled getting it pinched between the bottom of the helmet and the top of the shoulder pads of a ball-carrier while trying to make a tackle. They told him he had to go to the hospital, or they could amputate the tip so he could go back in the game. He too chose amputation.
I can so relate to the dragonfly swarming. Mayflies have occasionally blanketed the entire bridge connecting Red Wing and Wisconsin. Kinda eerie but mostly inconvenient and disgusting.
Sounds like the smothering and totally disgusting masses of love bugs that one could run into when traveling down through Florida. Would completely trash your car and the smell was horrific! Just one more thing I’d never miss about that state.
Always enjoyed drinking Arizona Iced Tea. It came pretty close to what I brewed here at the house. Truly amazing about how they’ve kept their product not only still delicious but the same price while everyone else went up-because they could.
It really is amazing. I remember a story (here, I think?) about the lengths to which airlines have gone to keep costs down, including trimming back the number of pages in their in-flight magazines. Would be fascinating to find out the specifics behind Arizona's effort.
Never knew the term "bunker" until now. I guess that's not exactly a long-term option. I'm not an Arizona Tea person. No offense to them - I seldom drink any canned or bottled beverages. But I'll remember this story when those rare occasions arise. I wonder, is the same true of all their container options? That they held out so long to shave an ounce off their can size is also admirable. The shrinking size game has been going on so long that it now appears to be the norm.
Also, I see I'm not the only one here who went straight to the story about the Aussie field hockey play. Dude! 😱

Not according to the NYT:
