Good post! I’ve been waiting for someone like Turtledove to write an alternative history of a Gore presidency. Linda Tripp is a good fictional starting point, but you could also start by taking Nader off the ballot (perhaps a car accident where he wasn’t wearing his seat belt -- the irony!), or maybe a competent Florida Democratic Party that decided the butterfly ballot was a dumb idea. But Tripp sells more books because there’s nothing like a sex scandal to make headlines, right?
The Clintons were pure evil in this affair. Bill with lying under oath and Hillary for going around the country on every late night talk show and claiming this was a Republican conspiracy when she had amole evidence that her soulmate could not be trusted.
Something worth looking at today: NASA's James Webb telescope shows a mosaic image of the Tarantula Nebula. The image, which spans 340 light-years, shows tens of thousands of young stars that were previously obscured by cosmic dust.

One other major potential consequence of the event? The Climate Crisis might have been largely forestalled by now (unlikely, but possible). At least it would have been 20 years into a great fight.
