Teen Girls Are Spending Big. She Tells Them What to Buy.
So, if I want to be able to buy tops that actually meet the top of my pants, and pants that don't go all the way up to my armpits, I have to start a TikTok channel, ask retailers to send me free clothes and post videos of myself promoting them? Is there anyone else out there who can advocate for the non "hootchie mamas" who just want to look nice, carry a good style and not look like we're trying to stay in our twenties? Asking for a friend...
Yes but they’re too busy leading a much more productive life and just don’t give a hoot about trying to influence others over anything as fleeting and expensive as styles of clothing.
maybe 'cause I'm trying to read a day late, but couldn't access the article. I get the idea of it tho...
Makes me wonder where the money is coming from??? The parents maxing out their credit cards?
I know someone, late 40's who just purchased a brand new $180,000 truck, taking out a loan, which the family CANNOT afford. They have a son, a senior in HS who has no idea what he's going to do next yr. Hasn't gotten a driver's license yet - head buried in his gaming toys, which his parents keep giving him for every gift-giving occasion. He has no social life. Parents don't have ANY retirement. Have taken out several 2nd mortgages; do you call it a 2nd mortgage after the 2nd??? The guy who just bought the truck has heart problems... wife works at the same at-home job she's had for 40 yrs (neither of them have any education past HS so I guess why encourage son? even some sort of trade school...) Anyway, all this to say, their credit cards are maxed out, I can't believe they got a car loan for that much!!!!! AND they have 3 perfectly working cars in their driveway right now - garage is too full of purchased stuff that doesn't fit in house so no cars will go in there... oh man, ranting...
Stock buybacks need to be outlawed. That money should be going to the workers. When I was growing up we were a 1 income family and there was no such thing as childcare. Now you need 2+ incomes and childcare costs more than a mortgage payment.
So true. Actually, it should be going to investors as dividends as well as to employees in the form of bonuses (like the execs receive!!).
Public companies customer is Wall Street and the investors. Buybacks manipulate and increase the stock price. Employees and the consumers of a company’s goods/services are secondary.
I remember when the CEO of Gannett Co., Inc. sold one of their jets near the end of a quarter and then bought it back a few days later just to keep the consecutive quarterly growth streak alive.
I’m not saying it is right, just that that is the way it is with listed companies.
Wa-Po link didn’t work for me today which was disappointing as I really wanted to read the article.
I did succeed in reading about that monster house in New Jersey. Came across as someone having more money than sense. And they are trying to foist it off on some other nut with the same affliction. It must just be my plebeian upbringing but it would be almost like living in a palace. It would take quite a staff to keep the place up so yes, it would really be a money suck. So they ended up being house poor. Shit happens though. Unbelievable.
coming in a day late - haven't read everything... (we didn't live in CA but) one son got his degree from CA Berkeley, a double major in CogSci (linguistics, computer science, philosophy, psychology & biology); w/ CogSci they were to pick 2 to focus on so he chose philosophy & linguistics) because he had had a bunch of computer science already then ended up liking/taking biology so had enough credits for a double major in microcell biology, because he had heard of AI & thought that was the major to go w/ cause AI as a major didn't exist. He's been working in the field since then...
questions --- I like to ask different questions...
I had a box of various ones & during the "dating process" before current husband & I got married we'd "pick a card" & we'd have some wonderful discussions. Those types of questions are all over the internet these days. Some of them were light talk, some heavy. We never shied away from any. One card he picked he put aside & said he'd save... I didn't know what that was all about... then when he knew we both were sure about committing he pulled out that envelope & read that question. This was the 2nd marriage for both of us. He had been the custodial parent from his divorce & had been single for 30 yrs. I divorced my ex after 37 yrs of marriage so neither of us were youngsters...
QUESTIONS - feel free to borrow this one from me. This is based on that divorce after 37 yrs to a man who never talked about retirement, never had any hobbies or interests, etc., nothing except work... after I divorced him, I moved to a different state, I went to visit a son where we went to a large party w/ a lot of his friends & their families. I met another couple & the man had just made plans to retire. I asked him "What are you retiring to?" He was stunned - said no one had asked him that. Then he started talking about lots of stuff
Well, I now live in an area w/ all 55+ people. There are a lot of people who seem to only enjoy talking about what they DID, & want to impress. Some of them are known as PIPs. Previously Important People. When I meet one I try to use my above question...

The flight attendant story, unpaid training, many unpaid hours, and having to resort to side gigs to earn a living, has me wondering if Canadian flight attendants are facing similar working conditions. If so, why on God's green earth would anyone subject themselves to this?

No wonder unions are coming back.
