Wow. I was in the 8th grade when the Tylenol murders took place. One thing I appreciate about your noting the anniversary is that I didn’t realize the authorities had not apprehended the perpetrator. Interesting historical details. A shame for the families.

The Michigan is just nuts. I’m a bit incredulous that such a detail wasn’t brought up by the woman’s real estate agent, nor that there was apparently no mention of such a lien prior to or at settlement on the property. Such craziness doesn’t bode well for any State that wants to encourage home ownership.

As for the teenage chess champion, I’m saddened, but not surprised. At best, I fear we’ve become an amoral society, though below the surface it’s more immoral. Kids either succumb to a pressure to achieve, stand out, or just to find meaning, and this , while perhaps an extreme example, is part and parcel in the land of ethical relativism. Morality is a whole package deal — you can’t “eat your cake, and have it to.”
