I'm a morning coffee drinker. Guess I started in college, during the day, a bit of sugar added, which continued when I was working, but didn't have more than a cup during the day. By the time my kids came along I started my morning routine of waking before anyone, having 2 cups, enjoying the newspaper (before internet reading times...) - MY time, thoroughly enjoyed. Then some time along the way I gave up the sugar bit, 1. cause it was just a tiny bit & 2. if I was out somewhere ordering coffee it was much easier just to order it black. I continue now, enjoying 2 cups, black in the morning, before eating anything... never have any at any other time during the day
I always click on an animal link - I don't remember Hurricane's actions during Obama's time but great story, beautiful animal
enjoyed reading about childhood memories. I'm a believer in stories being told by family members help 'instill' early memories. Also photographs. I wonder what happens now w/ fewer actual photos due to them being on phones... Bill, earlier I wrote about being a member of a "Tell Me Your Story" project. We had people who were hospice clients, who volunteered, record their memories for us. We used tape recorders instead of video in order to keep it more like a regular one-to-one conversation, vs being filmed (we then converted them to CD's, destroyed the taped versions & gave a CD to whoever the client wanted. This began after learning people would save messages on their answering machines from deceased loved ones in order to not forget what their voice sounded like). I found asking the person for photos to use as prompts for conversations was wonderful. Sorry, this is getting off-track of the topic, except photos, "in the good old days" were something people saved & were eager to talk about. And kids absolutely ADORE looking at photos - especially of themselves at different ages.
As I sip on my coffee here’s to Hurricane…what an apt name for a Belgian Malinois. Such a magnificent creature and this guy proved it. I would love to have one but know they are a unique responsibility and need to be working. Since having one is impractical (and wouldn’t be fair to the dog) I will stick with my standard poodle who is letting me know I stopped petting him to type this.
No comments today from me on the 7 Other Things as they speak for themselves!
My faith has deepened so much over the past 10 years as I began to start my day with coffee and the daily readings, along with homilies from priests around the world and Pope Francis's relevant take in these times, all on morningoffering.com. I feel blessed to further understand the simple and beautiful teachings of Jesus and apply them to my attitude and outlook on life. I feel sorry for people that were never taught about Jesus and I encourage my friends that don't have any faith to watch the Chosen to get started. It's wonderful to watch the gospels come to life and interesting to learn how so many people heard the same teachings, saw the miracles, but considered them blasphemy or didn't believe He was Christ, when they had been waiting and praying for Him all their lives. It helps me to understand now how America and the world has such different views about war, our leaders and who to believe. "Blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it" Thanks for the opportunity!
This comment pertains to your question about religion. I used to believe God was Catholic, because that’s what the priests and nuns taught me. Now I believe God is there for everyone and everything- not just those born into the correct ‘club’
Actually Dolly “stumbled to the kitchen to pour herself a cup of ambition”
Coffee wasn’t actually mentioned. OJ is my first and most important go to, then water, THEN coffee, then milk, then back to water for the day. Lots of ambition in OJ and water. 😊
Yes, when I was 18 I rebelled. I had been brain washed my whole life at that point. This was the basic detergent used.
You are a sinner, you were born a sinner. You are unable to make right choices without excepting Jesus Christ as your Savior and his spirit will be your guide. You will continue to fuck up and you are nothing, but if you continue to say, "I am sorry, please forgive me." You will get to go to heaven when you die. You will then meet God the father, Jesus his son and live a perfect life.
All of this is a complete made up story. All so you will join their heard and support their leaders. Ohh, most important, share and brain wash more people.
I do not believe any of this BS.
I now follow mindfulness and I van and do make good choices and decisions. I believe helping my fellow humans and animals and our beautiful world is the right thing to do.
All of the different herds hold a very dangerous precedent in our country. We need to each relook at why we do what we do and evaluate why we do it .
This sentence, "In short, I had it in my mind that Serious Adults Who Work in Offices and Want to Be Writers should drink coffee", sounds like the rationale that my fiancé and then new wife used to try to get me to drink coffee — "You're going to be on a church staff and every church office has coffee all the time. It's the sociable thing to do." Well, 47+ years later, I still don't drink coffee. In that time, I've had the equivalent of 2 cups of coffee and 1 cappucino. I don't like the taste or aftertaste. But, I drink a lot of chai (black tea and milk) first thing in the day and throughout the morning.
That eliminating waste in government thing is going great ain’t it?
Fired nuclear safety folks (oops, better get them back - what do you mean we don’t have their contact info?!), fired bird flu experts (oops!), saved $8B oh wait, that’s $8M (but wait, you’re in breach of contract government, that contractor will be getting all his costs and lots of other items back since the government terminated- lucky if we save half of the cost), same with all the firings (guaranteed some if not most will end up in court costing still more), oh, and let’s not forget, fire all the new folks at the FAA. Great idea! After all we never hear about airplane accidents do we? The older and worn out folks still there can pick up the slack! Sheesh
If the $8 BB mistake is the 2% of the iceberg that is above water what mistakes are we not seeing that make up the other 98%? Do 19, 20 and 21 year old college grads understand this stuff? Some of them can’t even legally drink yet.
Hi Bill, first let me say it's a small world, I live on a small island in the PNW, but grew up in Grafton, MA a short drive from where your friends mom lived in Worcester.
My faith changed 10 years ago when I came home and my wife had left me due to a troubled marriage and the fact that I didn't take my faith seriously. I had always said "I'd rather be riding my motorcycle thinking about church/God, than sitting in church thinking about riding my motorcycle.
I read shortly after that, that rock bottom is a great place to build a foundation and I found myself alone, wondering what I should do, feeling like this was rock bottom and turned to God. I threw myself into church and faith and here I am 10 yrs later. My marriage has been restored, I have a huge community of friends, I teach in two different ministries and firmly believe that all of this is because I chose to look at my life and turn it over to God. Is it perfect? Of course not, but its way better, and could not have been done without the help of my church community and God himself.
I was raised as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) and would tell anyone my experience as a child and young adult within the church was all positive. Mormonism is a high-demand religion and I lived it whole-heartedly. It was a huge portion of my identity. My heritage is Mormonism with ancestors being a part of it from its outset. I initially attended BYU-Idaho, married in an LDS temple, attended church RELIGIOUSLY, and live in a community in Idaho that is predominantly Mormon. Mormons do community really well—Mormonism was my world.
As an adult in my mid 30s I learned parts of Mormon history/doctrine that were not a part of the narrative I had been taught or rather, that had not been fully disclosed. Long story short, when I gave myself room to think independently and examine how I felt and not just believe what I was told to believe, I decided to step away from membership rather than try to exist in a space of cognitive dissonance.
Biggest take-aways for me have been perspective (now seeing the world outside of Mormonism) and that we don’t know what we don’t know. Mormons have answers/explanations for EVERYTHING—maybe every religion does??
I feel like having Mormonism crumble for me has made me skeptical of religion, but especially organized religion. Community outside of Mormonism has been hard to find, it is probably one of the things I miss most. Well, that and “knowing” I was going to live eternally in heaven. I am just a free spirit floating on the wind.
Still don’t drink coffee (residual effect of religious upbringing). I probably need therapy to deconstruct that, 😉 but I LOVE coffee mugs and the coffee house scene so I am half way there.
I’m a morning coffee drinker, black; no cream or sugar. But I’m completely confused these days as to what measure is considered “a cup”? It used to be 4 oz. back before mongo sized cups and mugs. My Yeti holds 16 oz. which is definitely 2 measuring cups but 4 old timey “cups”. If someone could clarify for me then, I could then eventually die happy. By the way, I now live 4 hours away from where coffee is grown so I have a great coffee experience without having to worry about tariffs.
Accidental firings seem to now be a “thing” with this bunch currently running rampant throughout our agencies.
Hurricane had a great and long life. May he rest in peace now.
I won’t say I’m religious but have developed a relationship with Jesus that is genuine and personal. I’ve always been a believer since childhood but in my senior years gained a better understanding of what it means to have a relationship with Jesus! Now my passion in life is to connect people to Him and others in a discipling relationship.

As a youngest, I just can't sort out some memories from family stories. What's real and does it matter?

Did I miss whether these coffee studies specified a difference between regular or decaf consumption?

A lot of wars are fought in the name of religion including by Christians. Just look at the crusades. I’m just saying…
I'm with you Arlene. We are blessed to walk with Jesus. All are welcome. It's a free will choice.

Love coffee. Still emotionally pneumonic thanks to the lockdown. Science can't fix everything.

Thank you for sharing that. I hope you're feeling warm and supported today, and that you find a community of people who make you feel at home.
