REMEMBER the iPod??? I use one every time I go to the gym (2-3 days a week). It’s a Nano 7th generation. Still works great and holds more than enough playlists to get me through my workout. BTW I enjoy anything I read about Steve Jobs. Thanks for today’s column.
It's a sad day when a retailer stops selling books. The feel. The smell! Can't beat it. And picking up your favourite book for the umpteenth time is like meeting up with an old friend.
I really like Apple products. The elegance, the simplicity and the functionality is always remarkable.
Nothing I hear about SCOTUS surprises me anymore. Too many government entities feel they are above the law; incompetence is celebrated and rewarded. I am so disappointed.
I love reading your article about historic products and events. I still use my iPod. There are songs on there that I don’t have elsewhere and playing them can instantly put me back in that timeframe. Thanks for sharing!
Ps. I agree - I hate to see books go away. I also still go to the library every two weeks - I must be old!
I loved my iPod. Of course, it was maybe second or third generation, but I remember feeling kind of giddy over how much music I could download onto it. Having three younger kids at the time, however, meant I was never able to enjoy it as often as I wanted or expected I would.
Regarding today’s Seven Other Things, it’s God’s grace we’re all still alive and not huddling around a fire in a cave trying to stay warm because some asteroid struck the other side of the planet, setting off a crazy EMP and a series of wars in which child soldiers are employed to destroy the computer systems and data of our Supreme Court. Seriously. The story regarding children under 15 being recruited for contract killings is truly depraved and at the same time, it’s a clever workaround against the law.
I’m not interested in touching off a war of words, but much more disconcerting than which Justice pushed back against any sort of binding ethics code, I’m more concerned that there are self-righteous people leaking things. I have no problem with whistleblowers when there’s something truly at risk. I’m not downplaying the effects of this, but this information having been released under the circumstances, this isn’t a person or group that’s concerned about the right thing, but about discrediting certain Justices and trust in our system. They need a better security system in place.
Lastly, is it better to know we only have seven hours before an asteroid is going to hit the Earth, or not send everyone into a crazy panic? Glad this one was only 27 inches. It’s the one that’s 27 feet that has me concerned.
Anyway, thanks, Bill. God’s grace and peace to everyone. Happy Advent!
Regarding the martial law declaration in Korea: I have lived in Korea 5 times since the 1980s. Since democratic reform in the late 1980s, six presidents have been imprisoned or sentenced to death. Korea even had to amend their constitution to limit presidents to a single 5-year term. Previously, re-election campaigns always led to bribery, influence peddling, etc. Korean media loves a scandal, the president and the National Assembly often disagree, and opposition groups can get a million people on the street seemingly in minutes. Of course, the unicameral National Assembly is moving to impeach President Yoon. I expect him to be convicted (perhaps also sentenced to death), imprisoned, and subsequently pardoned. Second verse, same as the first.
I have an iPod in each of my cars. It does only one thing, store and playback music that I OWN...and it does this one thing superbly, reliably and has for many years now...it outperforms every other option for playing music in my cars. I hope they outlive me!
I had an I Pod Mini that I cut loose when I sold everything and moved. I get my music now on my I Phone, I Pad or my Apple TV and I have more music now than I can ever listen to in a lifetime of listening. Sic progressus.
Look at the bright side as far as asteroids are concerned. Were it not for Jupiter, we’d most likely have been turned into toast eons ago and crooked politicians, Supreme Court justices, juvie hit children and all the wars in our known history would never have seen the literal light of day.

But god’s grace will protect you.

Books - kind of sad that a definition needs to accompany the word for our youngest future. I know that's not true, but still are books the iPod?
