On using the thumbs-up emoji - in American Sign Language the thumbs-up sign means OK or good job. So I often use it in email responses to co-workers, many of whom are either Deaf/hard of hearing or have family members who are.

Great story and of course well told! Thanks for writing Understandably -- makes my day first thing in the morning. I think about how many folks struggle but find a way to make their life and ours better. Keep up the great work Bill.

These sailors are the products of the neighborhoods, churches, schools and families working together to produce individuals blessed with a sense of humor and the gift of freedom who can overcome any kind of odds. These sailors are tremendously loyal and devoted to their units and their leaders in their own private and personal ways. As long as we have The Doug’s of this world, our country will retain its freedoms.
