Speaking of Monet, there’s a wonderful Washington post article of Monet’s 30 paintings of the Rouen Carhedral from 1892-95. He captured it in all kids of light, in fog, different angles. Each one was different, yet the same. The article is fascinating.

I miss The Far Side single panel comic strip. Gary Larson always had some observation or thought that was mind-bendingly funny. Like the dog hanging out the car window at a street corner stop sign, telling a buddy “First, we’re going to the library, then I’m going to get tutored!” I had a cartoon-a-day desk calendar for many years that cleared my mental timeline.

Dave Blazek and Loose Parts appears to be today’s version of Gary Larson. Enjoy!

I minored in art history in college because I wanted to go into a creative industry and knew that art repeats itself. Plus I love it, so it seemed a good thing to do. It has helped me in my work for many years, so I'm not sorry I did it, but I'm glad I chose something more marketable as a major.

I'm not on social media, except Linkedin and Instagram (because my kids are on it). I subscribe to a few awesome feeds:

Lefttonature- shows how nature has taken over some abandoned properties over the years. It's awesome to see

b_inspired_news - just feel good stories every day

oceandotcom- for ocean lovers

sarcastic_mommy- no explanation necessary

sea - sort of like oceandotcom

Enjoy!

To offset angst and drama, I just have to look at pictures of my 74-year-old hubby (or as he reminds ...my 5-year-old husband with 69 years of experience). Images of him on one side of a seesaw and my 8-year-old granddaughter in the other; or him in a shoe dept with another granddaughter both with stockings pulled over their heads; or the time he almost got kicked out of a restaurant for shooting straws at our grandson, or the time a wait staff came to him and said " I wish my grandpa had been fun like you. ". There is a lot of joy and escape in simplicity.

I think one of the most fascinating ways to learn about the world is through art history. I took old art new questions and new art old questions.... I swear that I would not know anything about ancient Greece, Rome, Mesopotamia, anything about any of the wars.... art was the only way I could learn that stuff in a way my brain would retain it.

Thank you for this artsy cleanse!!!!

My cleanse: return to nature. As my guy continues to unravel - as well as the world, it seems - I seek renewal in our ‘urban acre’; mark time by the ripening of strawberries, blueberries and the wild raspberries; listen for calls of osprey, owl or geese overhead depending on the season. Laugh as Dog begs to check out ‘her’ fish in pond or chase leopard frogs and peepers in the evening. Nature grounds me in its seasons and knowledge that renewal somehow always follows. All things my computer and technology fail to do.

Sometime last year, I had just about enough of all the angst being thrown around everywhere you looked, and there was very little humor. I’m not very present in much social media, really just Facebook a little, and I found myself always searching for things to make me smile or laugh. Then I started collecting these memes, anecdotes and stories, and decided to post them. Everyday. 10-15 a day. Silly things, dad jokes, dark humor, raunchy, Far Side, Calvin and Hobbes, Bloom County etc. There are a lot of people loving the daily chuckles, and tell me they look forward to it everyday- ‘keep ‘em coming!’ Of course, life is always Ying and Yang. ‘Ying’ looks forward to the humor. ‘Yang’ complains about a lot of them-‘that one’s stupid’, ‘why do you keep posting these?’, ‘stop blowing up my feed!’. I choose to ignore Yang’s angst, and keep trying to crack smiles. Over time, my timeline memories will be cleansed and full of laughter. Heck, as my own memory fades, they’ll all be new to me again, and I’ll share them once more!

Timeline cleanse, eh? This is the main topic in today’s Understandably.

What are our social media feeds littered with? Advertising! I both love and hate advertising on social media.

I’ve discovered some amazing companies this way, encircled, Knix, snag tights, Sheertex, and Silly George Lashes to name a few. Some companies I ordered from truly did not live up to the hype. I will chose to focus on those great companies I discovered above and leave it at that.

What about you? Do let me know.

Several months ago I discovered The Slowdown, a daily podcast/email with a short poem selected by poet Ada Limon. I love opening my email in the morning and starting the day with beautiful word art. Hearing her briefly discuss why she chose that particular poem that day and listening to her read the poem is delightful. I like reading the poems better, though, because I can "slow down" to reread stanzas, pause to absorb lines, and visualize the words.

I never thought I'd be interested in buying books of poetry, but my wishlist on Amazon now includes several intriguing sounding poetry books by various authors.

For some reason, we received a July/August Reader’s Digest in the mail last week … it’s Wonderful!!

The one article that totally got my attention is the one titled, “Instead of Going to College, I Read These Books”

The author only knows this as - Mrs. Clark’s Book List - She received this from her high school teacher, who knew that most of her students would most likely never attend college. The author is now 70, and has only 4 more books to complete this reading list.

I honestly don’t know how to share this 2 page list. Can I take a picture of these and post? Or send it to Bill somehow?
