Perhaps I'm just a cynic. I think it's a marketing stunt.

Good post. Have two guys in my own house who contemplate these questions now and again. One has grown a beard (a bare wisp of his 1970’s era beard, but a beard) and the other courts a fuller beard and a head of tumbling strawberry blond curls anyone would love.

One is a singer songwriter musician, one is a commercial real estate guru who is a musician at heart and occasionally in practice. The beards signal men unafraid to be men. It has been this way for awhile.

As for the full page advert: I find it interesting that the newspaper would publish this for free… so even if this was a real ad, it seems the newspaper also used it as a marketing ploy. One might think that some folks who actually know this couple + one would have weighed in (?)

As men with beards, so are women who decide to let their hair grow long. I’m one of them. I went from short hair to shoulder length hair. Short hair implies independent and unpredictable and many also saw it as gay (though I’m not). I wore my long hair back in a ponytail as I hate having hair in my eyes and mouth. But the ponytail sent the message of severe, don’t-mess-with-me and professional. My personality didn’t go with the long hair as my best friends pointed out and I hated having to fiddle with hair all the time, so off it came. Now it’s short and sassy. Yup! Having hair that represents who you are works.

"Short hair implies independent and unpredictable..." Umm, since when? It also doesn't "imply" being gay. Trust me, I know. Stereotyping based on hair length and style is a recipe for disaster.

You DID nail it perfectly with your last sentence. Hair is an individual choice, it should express who you believe yourself to be.

The comments came from several friends and clients, but I have also been approached from folks asking if I was gay. So far, my new hairdo has just elicited “I like it” or “it suits you” comments. And yes, I do like it better.

As for Steve the cheater. If he is a narcissist? He’ll love the publicity and will think Jenny is still madly in love with him. Happened to one of my friends. 🤦‍♀️

B - total publicity stunt... It's been done before with billboards

This one is real and it cost her nothing

As for the hair, I went the other direction: I decided to see what it would look like if I shaved my entire head (with a razor, as close as can be). I thought it looked like hell. I’m growing it back now.

Based on the study of my husband, having s beard isa lot more work than shaving every day

Never understood the appeal.of the scruffy look

Does anyone in Jenny's town get a newspaper?

Me personally, as a woman who I think has good taste in men, I hate facial hair on men. Most of them look like they are too lazy to shave. Many of the beards look like a woman’s unshaven whooha. I hate kissing a man and more sexual acts when they have facial hair. Men in general look much older with beards. Just my opinion. I can’t stand man buns either. Yuck!!! PS I’m no “square”. I’m an ex hippie actually.

I do not care for facial hair at all either. My husband doesn’t have any and he is a very masculine man and I’m extremely attracted to him.

Are there any studies on just mustaches on men? I personally like the 7-10 day beard growth but not longer beards. I think the shadow of a beard is sexy. I agree with most of the comments that the full page add is a marketing ploy.

It isn't properly punctuated, so maybe not a publicity stunt. Unless they are going for a stream-of-consciousness James Joyce approach with no periods.

Ya know, there are men who like men with beards, too. Just sayin...

Beards:

"...in the eyes of heterosexual women." Umm, yeah. Kinda important, right? Speaking on behalf of us lesbian women, we really don't give a poo how long your beard is as long as it's neatly trimmed. Or whether you have one or not. Just look decent, okay?

Dear Jenny,

Next time use Steve's last name in the ad. THEN everyone will know who he is.

Hugs,

Kate.

P.S. Call me if you need someone with a tarp, shovel and a truck.

This is a publicity stunt by the paper. Billboard companies do it too. Gives me a good chuckle though.
