It's great that you take time off! It's so important. I took extra time over the past couple of weeks and wondered why I didn't do it more often. (lol) but moving forward, I will. Heading back to work FT seeing patients today, I feel much better and rested. Its all about self-care. I don't make resolutions, but I do ask myself a handful of reflective questions to get me started. Most of the questions are around my takeaways from last year and what types of habits and systems work/don't/add new ones that I want to establish this year (thank you James Clear!). Also, a couple of things I want to do in 1Q/ and how to manage some of my fears around taking on a new biz project. Cheers!
So I have to start with a question. At the end of the newsletter there was a sentence. “ Something went wrong.” I am by nature, a curious middle child lol! I must know what went wrong.
On to other things, probably not 7. But you should revisit the sleep story of 3/21 because this morning my sleep number bed (apparently I need to be admonished in multiple ways) gave me a sleep score of 82. I don’t think that is a great score. Better than my 67 from the day before. Here is the irony of this situation…I am a terrible sleeper. If I go to bed too early, I can sleep 3 hours and wake up and feel I am ready to start my day. Normally I sleep 5 hours and think about the fact that I am going to die young because I am not sleeping enough. Because everything says you need 8 hours. Sorry for the background but the irony is coming! I went to bed at 10:52 last night. I woke yesterday at 3:30am so I should have needed to go to bed way earlier. We got record snow of 9” so I was shoveling etc off and on . Maybe that’s why I was awake… I don’t know. So I woke up at 7:04. I slept restfully 7 hours and 24 minutes and the bed report says , drum roll please….. You may have overlslept, too much sleep can be a bad thing. I wanted to scream ! Normally it chastises me for not sleeping enough. I finally get close to that recommended 8 hours and it says I overdid it. So Bob Morrow, be careful as it is a slippery slope! Lol.
1. Only two alcohol drinks/day. 2. Exercise 30 mins/day. 3. Drink water every two hours. 4. Sleep 8 hours/night. 5. Declutter! 6. Less TV, read for 30 minutes before sleep.
Lucian Truscot on Substack has had a virulent case of flu put him in the hospital so be careful Bill. There must be all sorts of mess in the air. I’d like to have you around a long time. No resolutions unless it’s to pet my dog more. That will work. Life for me now is really pretty simple these days.
Not a resolution, but a word - consistently. Exercise consistently - strength, cardio, flexibility. Eat consistently good for you foods with the odd treat in the mix. Think positive consistently. Get off social media consistently. do brainwork consistently - puzzles, handicrafts, reading.
My big goal of the year is to run a marathon in October, so being consistent with all of the above is non-negotiable.
2. Communicate better in all aspects of my relationships
3. Play around with "art" more
4. Write - I've decided since I can't seem to get my book out of my head, I'm going to develop a Substack newsletter page and write every couple of weeks
There's a few more home projects and such, but those are the biggies.
For me, 2025 is all about being international and more focused about the things I spend time on and who I spend time with because both are important and Ive learned from my past that I have spread myself a bit too thin and ended up not achieving all that much.
For 2025: enjoy life every day. Also agree with SPW and will let my dog even more if that is even possible! Good thing I can type on my phone one-handed.
It was a shame how Ann was treated at the WaPo. What happened to the first amendment? I dumped the Post after the editor situation. Used to be a solid reporter of facts. Hope Ann moves over the NYT.
My more global wish is for peace in the US. I'd love for it to be in the world but I'm trying to be realistic.
My wish for myself is to continue to progress in my journey for positivity. My life has improved so much since I started looking at life through a new lens.
My wish for all of you is to follow your dreams. You CAN make them come true!
2025 Resolution:
1. Eat better
2. Drink less
3. Sleep more

Loved that book too!
absolutely! I continue to return to it
Agree!
2025 resolution: Less doom scrolling and cable news consumption.

For new year 2025: reduce/minimize sugar intake, especially ‘added’ sugar; criticize/complain less; be more gracious.
I just turned 80:
I am comfortable but will never be rich:
I am now donating a small monthly sum to:
1. A local food bank
2. A regional help organization
3. A national help organization
4. An international help organization
I already know which I will support. I am absolutely dreading being on every organization’s list. Have delayed too many years because of this fear.
2025 Resolution: eliminate seed oils from my diet

My only resolution is to be frustrated less by that which I cannot control.
Resolution for 2025:
1. Help my wife paint the interior of our home

Happy 2025 everyone!
I don't make New Year's resolutions. It implies that I'm not doing my best to be my best the rest of the year. I'm happy with who I am.
