I’m the kind of person that can fall asleep in a nanosecond. But staying asleep or going to bed at a reasonable time is a struggle. So I got an Apple Watch. Now I monitor how long I sleep... and it’s disappointing. It ranges from 6-8 hrs/day. The biggest problem is the time when I go to bed. Sometimes I have to work until 7:30 pm and inertia keeps me up until after 11 pm. I haven’t figured how to solve that yet.
Bring all the boys home. No more troops anywhere other than the US. Wear an eye mask at night? How would I walk the 30 steps to the bathroom 6 times a night? Let alone find the aim?
For sleep we use light-darkening “blackout” blinds, an alarm clock with red lights and a dimming feature and a red night light in the bathroom with the door pushed nearly closed. Light other than red can disturb your sleep. A soft red nightlight in the bathroom allows you to see but doesn’t impact night vision. The military also uses red lenses on flashlights under operational conditions.
• New York City is taking precautions after former President Donald Trump announced he may be arrested. Law enforcement sources say plans for potential violence or large protests have prompted a joint response from the NYPD, U.S. Secret Service and the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force. Barricades are up around both Trump Tower and the criminal court where he'd likely have to appear. (CBS News)
Make sure the police get out of the way of the people looting the retail stores and shooting up innocents on the sidewalks on a daily basis. Nothing to see there, right Mr. DA?
Sorry, but I have traveled to NYC (primarily Manhattan but other areas as well) and I’ve never seen anything like you describe. I went there on a regular basis since 1983. Out at all hours of the day and night. Certainly too many people. The only crime I ever saw was Mafia-oriented. I enjoyed traveling there on business since it did not require my money to do so.
I worked in the city for 25 years up until last year. I've been followed by naked homeless men, I've left work and walked into the middle of a melee on a regular spring day. I started carrying mace and my coworker started walking me to my car after dark to make sure I got to it (2 blocks away) safely. Then he would go back to the office to get his wife so they could leave together. I've had people jump on my car as I came out of the Lincoln Tunnel, and had to wait while cops handcuffed a thief who was chased, caught and thrown against my car. I can go on and on about what I've seen. It used to be that I could walk through the city at 3am and never feel unsafe. I wouldn't dream of doing that now.
I don’t doubt what you said in your most recent comment.
Over the 40-odd years I’ve seen pretty much the same thing. It also depends on where you are. I’ve seen naked homeless walk the streets in Detroit, Chicago and even Greenville, SC. Can’t imagine what it was like around the capital on 1/6, an area I liked to take my family in the evening when we lived there.
So no shooting people in the streets or the looting of retail stores?
Yes. There are shootings in the streets, random beatings, people being pushed onto the tracks, and looting of retail. Ask any Duane Reade why every aisle has locks on a lot of their product. Also, 1/6 was one day. It's every day in NYC...and Detroit, Chicago, etc. The difference here is the NY DA made putting Trump in jail his #1 campaign promise in his own words in a TV interview. Keeping violent criminals in jail, protecting New Yorkers etc. doesn't even make the charts. That is a political hit and, in my opinion, dereliction of duties.
We have now devolved into politics. Nothing I say will matter to you.
The partisan, when he is engaged in a dispute, cares nothing about the rights of the question, but is anxious only to convince his hearers of his own assertions.
Darell, it was about politics from the beginning. My original comment was about the NY DA planning to arrest Trump. We didn't devolve, we circled back. Have a pleasant evening.
I’ve been to The City several times when things were supposed to be bad and then when they weren’t so bad. Walked all over-even went down 8th Ave when all the lights were red. No problems at all. At the time(late 70’s)the crime per capita was higher in my hometown than in NYC. I love NY.
I used an eye mask for years but for some reason, got out of the habit. It’s one I should probably resume. Now, if only someone would offer a safe and sound recommendation for blasting this old butt along with my lazy dog out of our recliner and into bed before 3 or 4:00 A. M.
As for your 7 other things, I’m glad to know about the troops.
I wish someone could stick a plug into tfg’s big mouth. Some of his blabber is probably why the Manhattan DA isn’t in a big rush to call him back to up to the Big Apple. It’ll happen on Bragg’s schedule.
And lastly, the end of the muscle cars is here and it’s going out with a gasoline bang. Sure. Whatever.
Can confirm that sleep masks are amazing. Nothing has improved my sleep more than a firm pillow and a sleep mask. Now my biggest problem is needing to stretch out my crinkly crackly body because I've slept like a stone in the same position for 8 hours. Definitely don't recommend the janky masks that come free with stuff, though. Go ahead and splurge the twenty bucks for a decent one that doesn't sit on your eyelids and put pressure on your eyeballs. I think I got my pillow on sale at Penny's for $15. Together, it's quite literally the best $35 I've ever spent. I'd easily pay hundreds for the sleep I get now.

Perhaps take it off while walking?
Being nit-picky, but Cardiff is in Wales, not Scotland.
Not only that, Cardiff is the capital of Wales. That’s the SW corner of England, far from Scotland. I wouldn’t call you nit-picky!
That's a good old fashioned needs-a-correction mistake on my part!
Hey Bill, I really like cutting holes in the mask idea and I don’t mean to sound disrespectful but here are a few more ideas:
Mask discomfort - make little eye pillows to put under the mask:
Keep out ambient light - sleep in a closet:
Sleep patterns - reverse position on your bed or try more pillows:
Sleep attire- wear socks:
Mask design - draw one eye open and one eye closed on your mask.
PS: Bill, if the leopard mask doesn’t work, try one that looks like a raccoon!😴
Love reading the "little known stuff". That's a high standard you've set!

Buy a toilet bowl light that has a motion sensor and you can skip the night light. They are inexpensive and a little fun — think the tidy-bowl man! 😎
