It's not really a job, it's a position, a title and very limited in time and scope. The country is run by the people behind the curtain. We see that now with the complete absence of our vaunted leader, joey the ice cream man.

Not even congress, who supposedly works for the voters, have the guts to tell the American people who is running the country because they are running for shelter from the coming tsunami that they themselves have fully bought into.

Many many many people will agree with you calling Joey, the ice cream man. That puts you up for the division of the people like Darel who love to insult. .However, you could simply leave it at the results of the debate left it obvious that Biden was in no position to run this country. Who is running this country?

Almost every single death in office was the result of the Zero-year curse. A lot of people call it a myth, but to call it a coincidence beggars the imagination. As James Bond said, "Once is happenstance; twice is coincidence; 3 times is enemy action." From 1840 to 1960, every single president (all 7 of them) who was elected or re-elected in a year ending with 0 died in office. Zachary Taylor is the ONLY president who died in office who was NOT elected or re-elected in a year ending with 0. The curse was broken with Reagan; since then, even though presidents who would have been subject to the curse have faced serious assassination attempts, not one of them have died in office.

Thank you for proving my point. Unless Snopes is going to claim that all those presidential deaths were somehow imagined or faked, your link means nothing.

Musk is once again showing his true (weird) colors.

Cable seems such a waste. Paying for the privilege to watch commercials for 25 minutes of every hour? I play less for an assortment of streaming channels (MAX, Netflix, Apple TV+, Prime with my membership, and PBS Passport) give me more than I ever have time for and Apple TV keeps it all sorted.

I just wanted to say, welcome back, Bill! So glad to have you back and the 7 other things!

That's an interesting set of calculations for "death during presidency"! I never considered how dangerous the title of president was. I'm wondering if it's the same thought process of wartime military enlistment and dying a valiant death and all. I'd assume people who want to die trying and those who want their death to be a legacy would consider both positions.

Very thought-provoking, thanks as always!!

Was reading your elephant story on AP when I caught this about the DOJ and Russia.

Too damn bad about Mongolia’s failure. They could have been heroes to many throughout the world.

Shame on you Bill. To state Elon Musk is "promoting" a republic of high status males is reckless and irresponsible. At least you included the link so the 1% of us that actually do the research can get the context of what you were trying to lead us to believe. I hardly believe that "interesting observation" equates to promoting!

The account he shared from normally gets a few thousand impressions. Musk calling it an "interesting observation" and sharing it gave it 20 million views. I think that counts as promoting.

I came here to say this same thing. While I can appreciate Bill's perspective, to me it is irresponsible to claim that Musk is promoting this theory simply based on his two-word comment to a tweet that quoted the theory. To Bill's credit, he also included a link to the Independent article that, starting in paragraph 10, details Musk's dispute with Robert Reich and provides a possible alternate motivation: "It is unclear if Musk re-posted the theory because he agreed with it or because it critized Reich. "

Also, I can't think that any of us would suggest that Bill is necessarily "promoting" the interesting observations and seven other things that he shares with us and the other ~19 million readers of the newsletters.

Why does anyone want to become president? 1} To contribute to our democracy or 2) Power. Unfortunately, it is all too often the latter.
